One of the Burnley defeats - think it was the 65-66 one - was against their full first team. They were punished by the then manager after a heavy defeat in the old First Division on the previous Saturday.
I'm not sure about the 65/66 final, but I can recall going to the 69/70 one, which was played at Turf Moor, and that was certainly a strong Burnley side; the Barrow team played superbly but Burnley were just too strong for us.The scoreline was a fair reflection of the balance of play.

Incidentally, if any of the longer-in-the-tooth members of the forum were on the supporters' coach that night, I apologise for the delay in setting off home, but having come straight from school and having had nothing to eat at the ground, I really did need to go the the nearby chippy - sorry! ;)

Better than that the club won it in the 1954/55 season. According to wiki.
Wiki is correct, Mark. We beat Oldham, but I have no other details. We've also been losing finalists on three occasions since then, according to my records:-

1965/66 lost 4-0 to Burnley after beating Liverpool, Bury, & Blackpool.

1966/67 lost 2 - 0 to Oldham after beating Man City, Morecambe, & Blackburn.

1969/70 lost 3-2 to Burnley after beating Preston, Netherfield, & Man Utd.

There may also be other occasions that I'm not aware of.

After we lost our Football League place we generally participitated in the Lancashire Junior Cup instead
