2,010 for 2010

Postby Jack and Joe » Sat Jan 09, 2010 1:38 pm

the board want an average attendance of 2,010 people for the last 10 games of the season.

tony keen said that
If we can’t get big crowds in for those games we as a board will have to look at what the real potential is for this club, because there will not be a Middlesbrough or Sunderland game every year.

board are right to look forward and try to raise attendences as games like middlsbrough and sunderland wont happen every year to make up the money lost on the decreasig gate. IMO. they should try to create a partnership with the local schools (like the rugby) to get kids invoved with the club and intrested in supporting there local team. :!:

Returning to school is definitely a good place to start.

How about distributing discount vouchers there to actively create the idea of coming to a match, rather than relying on youngsters to take it upon themselves or follow dad's lead?

I'm sure someone on here has mentioned using the free advertiser for distribution ... is this not feasible?

It's a good idea, the local Rugby League players get involved. Its a lot harder with us, because we only have Jason Walker classed as a local lad. Maybe during this bad weather, when training is called off, instead of letting the players go back home, maybe the club should be making sure they complete tasks in the local community. IE: Go and help in schools with PE lessons etc... I am led to believe that all players on a contract with Barrow RL, have to do a bit for the community. For example go into local hospitals, go into schools, junior RL presentation nights. This is a fantastic idea IMO by the rugby and it surley helps get kids back through the turnstiles. Well it must do, because AFC are averaging 1,250 and Raiders 2,100.

If groups of football-keen teenage kids catch the excitement, get the idea at school to make a day of it and descend en masse, hopefully we'll see some of their parents and family coming along with them.

Getting them to come is one thing, keeping them quite another so match-day initiatives would need to be considered also. Quite what, I'm unsure, but imaginative sorts could conjure something up, although I appreciate the difficulties of finding appropriate entertainment for a broad range of ages and interests.

If we're serious about consistently hitting 2,000 plus, we need to try things.

A large part of the promotion of the club within the town comes from the Evening Mail, but what of the untapped outlying areas, including Kendal and surrounds? Should we assume all would rather watch Carlisle (or Kendal!) or should we eventually turn our focus into tempting residents here too?

Why not make something to go in the mail or advertiser with 10x 2010 in 2010 vouchers for the remaining 10 games, maybe 20% off each game and at the end of the season if we achieve the 2010 in the ten games people can get a percentage off season tickets or kids go half price with a full paying adult all next season?

As I said in another thread, the only thing that will make a significant difference to our attendences is results. We were battling relegation last season, and have been so far this. I do wonder though, If we were to get relegated this season, and drop into the Blue Square North, and then go on a 30 game unbeaten run, would attendences be lower or higher than being in the Blue Square Prem and being 16th?

I would say higher.

Both Martin Lewis and TK talk about having themed matches such as 'Bring a Mum' day and also mentions the different types of tickets that they have available. TBH I don't think they'll get anywhere a crowd of 2,010 for the remaining league games this season even when they mention some of the games we have left to play at home. However at least they are trying things to attempt to get more people coming on the back of the Sunderland game. The thing is the next home game isn't till next Saturday if it goes ahead and the Sunderland effect will probably have all but gone by then.
With regard to admission prices I'm pretty sure the club have to charge a minimum admission price for league games (last season it was £10 for an adult) so this may have an effect on what exactly they can do.

That has been done here where I live, the Sale & Altrincham Messenger used to print a coupon that kids could cut out and use to get in to Alty's games for a quid. Maybe the NWEM could do something similar.

I personally feel £13 is an outrageous price to pay for Conference football. I know other clubs charge more but that it isn't the point. When I've told the price of admission to friends their jaws drop. It is a fact that you can get into some Premier League grounds for less. The cost must be a massive factor in why our attendances have dropped. Until the Conference realises that the minimum price is set way to high then attendances in the league will drop. Out of interest what do people think a fair price to pay (not what you are willing to pay) for Conference football ? I think around £8 wouldn't be too far off the mark.
Some say it's a black hole, but this town is a place we call home. Some says it's a black hole, but they'll never know.

Fair enough...incidentally I have some magic beans for sale, would you be interested in buying them?

How much are the beans?

I think they should do one game where everyone gets in for free - and on the way out you pay as much as you want - what you think the team deserve.

Or getting some local companies to pledge a certain amount to the club if the club gets over 2000 for a game.

Yes, £13 is quite outrageous and I personally am sick and tired of funding the players' Ferraris and Lambourghinis.

This discussion crops up quite often on this site. Basically, teams like Blackburn in the Prem have massive revenues from TV rights. We have nothing. If you want a nearly-professional football team in the town, and have the opportunity to see them play against teams like Sunderland once in a while, then pay £13. If you don't, then goodbye.
