Great read. I was saying the same thing about the ball - why didn't we use a luminous orange or yellow ball. Its probably no consolation but you could just about see the Luton goal from the Popular Side (covered terrace opposite the Main Stand where Ultras banner was).
As I understand it there is no official cut off point for a match being abandoned and the result standing, if this happens its decided by the league what happens. When we were in the Conference in 1998/99 season a game (not one of ours) was abandoned on 89 mins with one team leading 1-0, the league ordered the game to be replayed as the side trailing at that point still had time to get an equaliser.

THanks for all the positive feedback...A couple of people have asked if I can send them individual photos. No problem at all - simply pm me with contact details and the photo in question

You could hardly see the huge Luton players in their orange shirts by the end let alone the ball!

Yes, would have been sensible. If we have any, of course! Do we I wonder? Forecast was for poor visibility so should have come prepared? :)

If I remember correctly one season when we played Bradford PA back in the Unibond days I think it was, it snowed and started to settle on the pitch in the first half so the ref asked if the club had any different colour matchballs than white. One of the directors went down to JJB and came back with a few and these were used to complete the remainder of the match. However I think due to sponsorship issues they may have to be from a particular manufacturer/sponsor and be of a specific type for our present league. I think the club receive some footballs from the league at the start of the season but I don't know if we get different colours or not?

Thanks, John. I guess we could ask our fellow conferencers to see if they have used bright balls in any games this season. You'd think the ball sponsors (Umbro I believe) would provide yellow/orange alternatives. The undersoil-heated world of the Premiership have them throughout the winter period so we ought to in typically less hospitable and visible conditions!

Remarkable how blase footballers remain about the balls they use, I find. Grab one from JJB and off we go! Yes, with a quick kick around you'll soon get used to it, but surely they all behave in slightly different ways? That muscle memory you use for the 30-yarder that often flies into the roof with one ball, may veer wide with another :)

Unless I'm reading this wrong, it's a glaring error:

Last season they made waves in the FA Cup, beating Brentford at home in front of the TV cameras and then narrowly losing to Middlesborough at The Riverside where their 7,000 travelling fans almost doubled the fickle Boro fans.

This makes it sound like there were 7,000 of us, and 3,500 or so Boro fans?
Actual numbers were 7,000 of us, and 18,000 Boro fans (for just over 25k total).

That said, it's half 6 in the morning and I'm still running on Monday, so I might be completely mis-reading it.

Perhaps Barrow should try some different balls? A few mis-hit 30-yarders might veer into the net. :)
