Re: Barrow v Hornchurch match thread

What surprises me is that so many forum members are surprised at the way the season has started. It is easy sometimes to think that when your team gets relegated it automatically manifests itself at the higher end of the league below. In most cases this not the case. I truly believe that the nature ...

Re: Hartlepool Away

Interesting focus on 3-1 as the likely outcome. Is this a case of intelligent guesswork? Or could it be the result of some form of retained data floating up through the cerebral cortex? Last league away fixture versus Hartlepool was a 3-1 loss. Last league home fixture versus Hartlepool was a 3-1 win

Re: Eve of the season, some facts

That's a great piece of analysis Jonty in terms of demonstrating the true nature of the challenge that awaits us. Having watched the team at Morecambe for the first time at the weekend I thought there were probably more positives than negatives. But it would be wrong to think that the NL now is the ...

Re: Had to laugh or cry.

I remember Mick Hollis very well Paul. Though I can never think of him without also picturing Tony Morrin. The two used to have a great relationship on the pitch. As someone who lived in Stockport for a while in my early twenties I also remember Mick Hollis's name being daubed in white paint on the ...

Re: Barrow v Blackpool

Impossible to tell at this stage though the signs are at least positive enough that we might avoid last seasons outcome. I haven’t seen the new squad yet. But i was interested in Evatts comments yesterday regarding the “extreme” physical nature of the tactics. First time I’ve really heard this thoug...

Re: Can we realistically challenge for promotion next season

It's right and proper that we should remain positive and enthusiastic about the new season. I'm not entirely sure though what evidence there really is to suggest that we will be involved at the right end of the National League come the end of it. The simple psychology of a demotion may be that we've...

Re: Next 5 games

Another utterly amazing set of results this evening. 5 teams below us. 4 losses and one draw. Also three of the loses turned late in the game. Two games in hand on two of them (both of who we have play at home). A game in hand on the other three. There was a time when it looked like the points requi...

Re: Barrow v Crawley Town, match thread

Cripes! I was thinking that very thing myself yesterday morning, l even looked up his last posting which was in October of last year. So dear SB where are thee? Probably in a dark room with his head in his hands …although he was also in the pub at Wigan with a drink in his hands! 🍺 Ah yes. I had se...

Re: Barrow v Barnet match thread

We are 19th out of 24 teams in the average attendance table on 3150. There are 11 teams in the league averaging over 6000. Over a season these teams will be pulling in excess of £1.5m more than us in gate money alone, Of the 9 teams currently below us in the table, 8 are bringing in bigger crowds. ...

Re: Walsall v Barrow, match thread

As per my post on Facebook, Stan was a lovely bloke. I remember him always with a smile and a kind word. Utterly approachable and clearly devoted to the club. He was one of those massively important cogs that were only ever really partly visible, never in the forefront but helped kept the club alive...

Re: Britt Assombalonga

Thanks for the correction Adam. Something at the back of my brain did spark a memory of Assombolonga being involved in Danny Hursts injury and since that was in the first 20 minutes he must’ve been on from the start. I do remember the injury being a bad one and that Hursts left the field on a stretc...

Saturday will see us take on Barnet at HS our first encounter with them for some years. Many will remember the departure of Kenny Lowe to Barnet back in the day for a reported fee of some £40k not an insignificant fee at that time prised from the fingers of Barry Fry. However in the last week, Barne...

Try putting it a different way. If we do show them respect it shouldn’t be a difficult afternoon.

Re: FA Cup

Well then. As suggested Fylde were the proper test at that level and that result speaks for itself.

And there were a lot more aspects of the Moors performance against Merthyr that were dodgy than just the keeper.

Re: FA Cup

6 4 winners today Spennymoor 7 in a row Highlights on the Moors website. Very entertaining. Both teams could’ve scored ten. A trip down National League North lane. Standard of defending on both sides appalling. Inability to deal with pace down the flanks or crosses coming in. Defenders failing to p...
