Can I please add the chain-smoking Robbie Thomas to the above list - I loved Robbie.
And yes I believe you are right about the track-suit bottom wearing legend Kevin Thomas - I think he was paid off from the pro game after knee injuries. He couldn't kick very far at all but he remains easily my favourite ever keeper. He also had amazing round shoulders and walked like an ape! I loved him too.
Bringing back memories of happy days there phil, loved that time probrably coz i wasn't old enough to know how bad we were, all excited on a friday night, looking forward to games against the likes of Matlock, Buxton and South Liverpool etc haha

Was Kevin Thomas the one in the team photos who looked like a hobo Nick Cotton?

Name?

Andrew Steel

How did you get into Barrow AFC?

My dad took me by force and I haven't been able to refuse to go since. It's a good job I like it, really.

What was your first match?

Memory is a bit sketchy, as I was only a nipper, but I'm pretty sure it was a friendly for a charity (St Mary's Hospice or something?) against Man City in the very early 90s. I'm guessing my first league game was the first home game of the following season.

How many times have you seen the team play?

Shit loads.

Do you travel to away games?

Used to go to most Saturday ones as a kid but less so since I went to college, then uni and now because of work.

What does Barrow AFC mean to you?

Without Barrow AFC I would literally not be alive. Fact.

Who is your curent and all time fave player?

Current: Rutherford, Owen and Hurst.

All time: Eddie Johnston, Paul Jones, Neil Morton, Marc Coates, Ashley Hoskin, Steve Farrelly, Simon Bishop, Grant Holt and, errr, Jimmy Brown.

Through my Dad, ex-player and Holker Street terrace legend Roy Buckingham

What was your first match?

Too early in my life to remember my first first cause I was too young but when the bug finally got me I came and watched Neil Morton and co rip Knowsley to shreds in (I think) the opening game of the 1995/96 season

How many times have you seen the team play?

Hundreds now. Ever present whenever possible!

Do you travel to away games?

Now and again nowhere near as much as I'd like too

What does Barrow AFC mean to you?

I bleed blue and white

Who is your curent and all time fave player?

Current is Peo and all time is the mercurial Andy Green

How did you get into Barrow AFC?
I went to a few games in the Vic Halom era and got hooked.

What was your first match?
First visit to HS was the Greengate Utd v Man Utd game in 1978. Don't remember a lot about my first Barrow match but it was one of the Halom games.I remember sitting in the old wooden stand.

How many times have you seen the team play?
Hard to say really.Probably 300 or so? Some seasons only 3 or 4 games, other seasons up to 20 games.

Do you travel to away games?
Yes, mainly the northern grounds though.Very rarely go south of Manchester unless it's a big FA cup game or Wembley. Went to all the old Unibond league grounds in the mid 90s.

What does Barrow AFC mean to you?
A lot really!! Supporting Barrow is a link to my place of birth and my childhood. I've always thought you should support your hometown team.

Who is your current and all time fave player?
All time would be Kenny Lowe. Current? Spoilt for choice at the moment but probably Danny Hurst

How did you get into Barrow AFC?
Like just about everyone else, through my Old Man

What was your first match?
Sometime during the 87/88 Season, not sure who against but South Liverpool definitely rings a bell somewhere. Although I distinctly remember being bought a rosette and being heartbroken after Enfield knocked us out of the Trophy later that season

How many times have you seen the team play?
Not as many as I'd like these days, but definitely up in the Hundreds over the years

Do you travel to away games?
Went to a fair few in my School and Sixth Form Days and spent a couple of years living in spitting distance of Moss Lane (which is how I felt when I passed it) so went to a fair few down that way. Sadly these days even home games feel like an away game as I moved to Canada, and even though I go to Toronto FC a fair bit, to be honest its no substitute and I'd rather be stood on the Popular Side week in week out, and go to HS whenever I am back home.

What does Barrow AFC mean to you?

Although I moved away, I'm a Barrow boy through and through and am very proud of where I am from and my home town team. As work computers won't let me post on here I do a fair bit of lurking and it makes me feel like being back in Barrow, and am jealous that I have to live my AFC experiences vicariously through all good folks who post on here.

Having spent a few years travelling around, I met many people who leave me knowing first and foremost of Barrow AFC and secondly a particular song in their head:

In the town where I was born, there lived a man who sailed to sea,
And he told me of the games in the Unibond Premier League,
Sky of Blue and clouds of Grey I'll follow Barrow all the way,
Sea of Green and clouds of white we sing that Morecambe are *Swear Filter Ahoy* (Rhymes with Trucking Right)
WE ALL LIVE IN THE BACK OF HOLKER STREET...

Who is your current and all time fave player?
Being limited mainly to the radio these days, I'd have to say young Boyes, feels like hes gonna score every time we go forward.

All time obvious one would be Cowps from my younger days, but with honourable mentions for Jimmy Capstick, Jonah and Jabba

How did you get into Barrow AFC?
My friends told me about this forum and well here I am.

What was your first match?
I'm a relatively new fan, so my first match was around 2 years.

How many times have you seen the team play?
In person? only 3 times

Do you travel to away games?
Not really into traveling just to watch a game.

What does Barrow AFC mean to you?
Right now, its just a sport that entertains me at times. Like I said, I just a new fan as of late.

Who is your curent and all time fave player?
Don't think I've know the team that well but I think Boyes would fit the description.

How many times have you seen the team play?

What does Barrow AFC mean to you?
More than my son (joke) its my home town team it means alot!!

Name.Tom Pearce

First Match....remember coming home from roanhead fishing on my bike as a kid and hearing a roar as we went past holker street.
So we scratted a hole under the popular side gates and went in to see a team in red and white stripes winnng 7-1
Started paying to watch in 1978 and remember rainy nights after night school in front of 500 fans...teams in yellow always seemed to win

How many times seen team play....over the years (34 years) been to lots of places some which dont exist now...pick and choose home games now due to demands and finances....also watched a few reserve games and travelled with them after work doing the reserves support commitee and fundraising events

Do you travel to away games....not regular but if bored in work like the other month , quick phone call to fill a car and off to darlington(last one) cup games yes

What does it mean to you.....after 34 years its good to see us at conference level but would love to see better facilities before my time is up. Also part of the banter at work and on line, great people around the club...all part of the AFC family so to speak

Who is favourite current player and all time favourite....If the truth be told, when I was younger remember singing more songs for neil morton so he,s right up there, out of todays team, Jack Mackreth is very exciting

Can anyone shed any light on this? Was it us in a strange kit...and if not, who the hell beat us 7-1 at home in (I assume) the mid-late 70s?

The only game that I think it could be is Altrincham in February 1979. That would be after the the time mrsenario started paying to watch, though, and we "only" lost that one 6-1.

We also lost by the same score at home to Northwich Victoria in March 1976, although their normal colours are green & white. Possibly their away strip?

To be honest, never really checked up on this myself but mentioned this in a conversation a while back and said it could have been exeter city or brentford in one of our last couple of years in the league...after glaring around the ground, it could have enticed me to the speedway for a few years before hooked on the footy outright.

Must have had a spell watching the rugby in the 80s as remember going into work buzzing over some great games in the Ball, Tickle ,French era, cup days out as well ,apart from being best man at the lisdoonie the day they actually won the lancashire cup.........even remember watching the footy and walking down for the rugby after the same day............must have watched both for ages untill just the soccer just before the alliance conference...remember being a sheetie in the yard and making the mesh tunnel that came out from the old stand for the start of the conference games

Name? Steve

How did you get into Barrow AFC? Started watching them with my uncle in the 80's

What was your first match? Was in the 87 / 88 season I think, not too sure of the opponents but started going to most home games after my first taste of Holker Street.

How many times have you seen the team play? Many, was a season ticket holder for 4 years before moving to Liverpool last year, managed to make it back for a few games this season.

Do you travel to away games? Have done, am aiming to do more now am living in a city and travel is easier.

What does Barrow AFC mean to you? The only football club that matters to me. largely ignore the premier league and all the crap that goes with it nowadays.

Who is your curent and all time fave player? Current player would have to be Ruthers, always gives everything even if it doesnt come off well all the time. All time would have to be Cowps or Kenny Lowe, loved watching them as a kid
Never Mind The Boro, heres the Bluebirds!!!
