Who is out injured?

I imagine Dave B will use this as his excuse when the final score is several nil to A-T-F-C............

How come we seem to get more players injured in training than actually playing. What are they doing, freefall parachuting without parachutes.

We pay players ~40w/yr, train 3 times a week and play ~50 games a year at 1h30 each.

75h/yr is spent playing, with 120 training sessions. So assuming injuries in training and playing are equally likely, there's a 1.6y chance of getting injured in training (where y is the number of hours in a standard training session).

We can't afford them, Graham. It's only the ex-League clubs that get parachute payments. :)

I also think that's a silly assumption. It just simplified the equation. Define z = y(strenuousness of training)(strenuousness of games)^-1 if you must.

I often define z thusly.

Even if injuries are more likely in games, the disparity in the number of hours is so great that you're still likely to get more injuries in training. Big bone-crunchers are far more likely in games, obviously, as are certain injuries from over-stretching etc - but other problems are just from use/exertion and are as likely in 90 minutes of training as in 90 minutes of a match. It therefore makes sense that you'll get injuries in training, and particularly at this early stage of the season when some players may not be fully match fit after the summer.
