Meet the Board Night
Re: Meet the Board Night
I can't go due to where I live but I hope at the very beginning someone makes it clear to the BOD WE ARE NOT THE ENEMY. We want to know whats going wrong SO THAT WE CAN HELP.
Hopefully the meeting will be constructive and not a slanging/shouting match.

Re: Meet the Board Night
I think the most important thing is that the meeting is looking to the future instead of worrying about the past.DaveP wrote:I can't go due to where I live but I hope at the very beginning someone makes it clear to the BOD WE ARE NOT THE ENEMY. We want to know whats going wrong SO THAT WE CAN HELP.

The John Mackay meeting recently seemed far too much of the latter - excuses/arguements etc about things that have happened which will acheive nothing - obviously I expect some explanations may be wanted, but looking to what we're going to do in the future is much more important to get the most out of such a meeting.

wasn't meaning you in particular about good fan/bad fan split, just in general.spirit of 1990 wrote:I wasn't trying to make it sound like a "good fan/bad fan" split, all I was saying was I think it's important that as many as possible get there. Obviously I didn't mean (& I did say in my post) people who are busy/work away or have anything else already planned. I just can't see the point in people moaning but sat at home waiting for John or whoever to post about what went on.............then whinge that this, that or the other never got mentioned.tictactoe wrote:By posting I didn't want to start a good fan/bad fan debate because some can attend and some can't
Don't think so Lisa, I spoke to one or two that night. What was the conversation about? PM if you want.tictactoe wrote:Spirit of 1990 just a query were you the guy that spoke to me at the meeting with John McKay by the stairs? Just to satisfy my curiosity
not to worry regarding the latter. chap I spoke to just asked me what I thought of meeting don't know who he was, just nosey and took a guess at you.
everyone is entitled to their opinion, deal with it

Spot on Dave. if we turn up in numbers we can't be ignored. Absolutely spot on U.P. You said exactly what I meant but in a lot less wordsUncle Peter wrote:if we turn up in numbers we can't be ignored. If only a few bother the board may wonder why they bother
We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.
Re: Meet the Board Night
It might have been me- I did speak to someone who was heading out down the stairs.
I am going again tomorrow night -I am sure the key question will be on finances and can we take the hit this season if we continue to have crowds of 800, after that I want to hear some news (hopefully positive) on setting up a volunteer programme.

Re: Meet the Board Night
Like most other exiles I can't be at the meeting.
If anyone is short of a question to ask then what I want to know is what plans have made for us NOT getting the development. I asked TK this face-to-face a year ago and his answer was along the lines of there being no Plan B other than to keep getting more people into corporate. A year on, I hope (but doubt) that the BOD have done some serious thinking about this scenario, particularly given that the "get more people into corporate" strategy is seemingly in disarray this season anyway. Furthermore, if the BOD (and in particular TK) are still putting all their eggs in the development basket then are they personally committed to continuing in their positions if we don't get it?
Oh yes, and when will the bleeding AGM be for Cowps' sake?

Re: Meet the Board Night
Whilst like others I welcome the fact that the BOD are willing to make themselves available it is clearly unfortunate that only 48 hours notice has been provided for this meeting. One week would have been the minimal sensible expected notice period. I'd already made plans to take the family away, so can't be there. No doubt many others are in the same position with pre-arranged commitments.
In the circumstances surely the turn-out won't be spectacular. Conspiracy theory...Perhaps this is what the BOD are hoping for if want to argue fans apathy!? 'Does the town really deserve BSP football'...
Any feedback from the meeting that could be posted by attendees would be appreciated. I (and no doubt many others) would be particularly interested to hear the BOD's take on:
- why repeated offers of help from volunteers have essentially been ignored. What happended to the spreadsheet that was filled in by a number of us six or so months ago? Many other clubs do it, we don't. For example why pay a local firm to run the website when there are capable fans who would happpily sort it for nowt. Was Brian Keen's local rag annoucement a couple of years ago that we would become the 'Wimbledon of the north' just hot air? What exactly is being done to find out what other clubs are doing in this area and it can be translated to our club? It seems we are a 'members' club in nothing more than name right now.
- Martin Lewis's departure has seemingly left a big hole in the commercial side of the club. Corporate hospitality uptake and sponsorship income is by all accounts seriously down. How is this going to be dealt with going forward?
- As full an update on progress with / decision timescale / chances of success and 'Plan B' if fails as can be provided (within the constraints of commercial confidentiallity) on the Holker Street Development?
- Proposals to interact with local schools and junior football teams with a view to getting the next generation of fans to support the club. We had the 500 kids attending the York match last autumn, but since then nothing much has seemingly happened.
- Whether 'hand on heart' in their opinion it would make better economic sense for us to return to being a 'big fish in the small pond' of Blue Square North?
- The performances and points gained by the team over the period since Sheriden left. Hopefully it won't, but if the situation continued going forward would the club's almost full-time training commitment and contracting of DB for the rest of the season mean that realistically the BOD's hands are tied and the option of change would not be available even if they wanted it?

Re: Meet the Board Night
A fair few of us (some from the ISC, one or two from BDF/NSC, some not) have been talking, and this is how we propose to take things forward:
We propose a supporters committee set up to report to the board and take some control of day to day matters, to support the board's work. It's very much about getting a measure of control back, and looking forward, being proactive etc, not name calling or pointing fingers. We are a members club and should be acting as such- that's a two way street.
They would meet either a representative of the board or the board every month.
This group would take responsibility for:
Administering the volunteer programme
Fans liason with Stewarding/ and policing, home and away
Initiatives such as free tickets for schools etc, Junior Bluebirds, bringing in young people
Fund Raising (mostly left in the gift of the BDF, who do a good job, but with new ideas coming in)
Supporting the shop, modernising, sourcing products etc.
The committee would act as a hub for different groups within the support.
eg BDF, ISC, NSC but also people with new ideas, much like YOU. i see the volunteer plan as being an important part of that, however also the whole thing needs shaking up.
I think it's going to be very easy to get bogged down in recriminations, and some hard things do need to be said, but if that's all that happens a great opportunity will have been lost.
From a purely personal point of view now, I'm not going to sit there and accept future promises on this from the B.O.D- I passionately believe it has to happen now, not at a future A.G.M and that responsibility and support and control of what happens at Barrow A.F.C has to be widened, starting tonight.

Re: Meet the Board Night
I don't feel the need to post much as I prefer to just gather information from this forum but I have to say this post really hits the nail on the head for me. If paying my money every week religiously is not enough then I want to be involved in something like this. This is the way forward, no doubt.barrowaberdeen wrote:A fair few of us (some from the ISC, one or two from BDF/NSC, some not) have been talking, and this is how we propose to take things forward:

Why do people get everything wrong all the [SwearFilter] time. It's not a NEW stadium, it's money for tarting up what we've already got.
