Cost of BSP footy

Re: Cost of BSP footy
It's a revealing article, isn't it?
Losses of £2.2 million over the eight years it took to get out of the Conference! Two Wembley trips in a season and still losing nearly half a million pounds! 96% of income on playing costs! This way madness lies... You can make your own (favourable to us?) comparisons with our last-published situation.
On the other hand, "Commenting on the club’s accounts for the year ending June 30, 2012, which are currently being audited and are expected to be published at the end of March,,," You can make your own (less than favourable to us?) comparisons with our last-published situation.
Interested to see that a prime reason for the proposed move by York to a new location is to establish facilities to bring in non-football income. Let's hope we are still active in the proposal to create something with an external partner which would kick-start the redevelopment of our ground and give us some better facilities to bring in non-match day income. Also interesting to note that this proposed move has been very protracted and hasn't happened as quickly as some expected the redevelopment at Holker Street to appear.

Not even close rockerlad. We didnt make the vast fortunes people think we did from any of those games.
Re: Cost of BSP footy
Did you seriously mean to put a '0' between '75' and 'k' (K)?

Re: Cost of BSP footy
didnt cawley make around 400k from a trip to old trafford the other season, also you get 50k for winning the fa trophy, plus all the prize money on the way and half of a verry decent gate as well, so theres 100k just about.

There was 50k more people at Old Trafford than Wembley
Re: Cost of BSP footy
Quote Promotion to the Football League means, however, that the Bootham Crescent outfit expect to break even this season
I'm sure someone will correct me, as I read it, it is better we get out of this league as soon as possible, there seems to be a lot of clubs not being able to afford the costs in this league and i feel that the football conference need to ploughing more money into this league to support clubs. I don't know what help comes with coming up in the league financially and a little unclear what teams dropping out of the league get. It seems if York predict to break even in their first year without the cup runs against the large loss made in the BSP the league is where we need to be as it attracts more cash, the BSS is not where we should be playing, but how do we get there I don't know it would be nice for the board to share there plan with the fans to help the club reach their goal. What the aims and objectives of he club are I need reminding.

So 'if' we go down we'll be better off ? I don't understand this as surely we won't get the numbers in we have now ! Or get the better players. I just hope I win the euro lotto so I can help us get to where we need !

Could be argued that if we were in the league below and in the playoff hunt upwards then we'd get higher gates.Barrowabc wrote:So 'if' we go down we'll be better off ? Re: Cost of BSP footy
I recall an interview with the York manager a few seasons after they came down and he said that York had made no attempt since demotion to reduce costs. They were running the club as a football league side, as if they still had the same income, they were loosing 6 figures every season (400K+ was mentioned if I recall) so most of that £2.2 million was probably run up in the first few seasons they came down. Clearly after a few seasons of smaller looses they started to spend big again for their promotion season and run up bigger loss that those earlier seasons. They still continued to spend to get promotion, that spending is an on going problem. While clubs in this league continue to do that clubs like Barrow are always going to struggle as players expect more money.
York's situation is nothing like ours, they were spending silly money thinking they were going straight back up. For a club that sold a player for £950,000 about 4 seasons before they were relegated, you would think that they would not be skint. They also got £300K for Brodie at a much needed time if I remember. If Barrow had sold a player for that much we would be set up for a good few seasons. Too many clubs in this league spending money they don't have.
nice try.
Man Utd v Crawley Att: 74,778 (ticket price was above £40 for the Crawley fans) + TV money.
Barrow v Stenvage Att: 21,223 (tickets £30) + No TV money
Sunderland v Barrow Att: 25,190 (tickets £15) + brief (bit more than just the goals) highlights on ITV, don't know if we got anything for that.
Middlesbrough v Barrow Att: 25,132 (tickets £15) + No TV money
What Crawley got from that one game surpassed everything we got from Middlesbrough, Sunderland and Wembly combined. Crawley also had wins from the 3rd and 4th round of the FA Cup that season, those 2 rounds alone would have beaten anything we would have collected from our FA Trophy run. It is well known that the big clubs (recent ex-league sides) in the BSP don't care about the Trophy unless they get near the final. In the cups they are only bothered about getting to the 3rd round of the FA Cup as there is more money in that than winning the Trophy. The FA have tried to change that by lowering the prize money from the first few rounds of the FA Cup and raising Trophy prize money but it has not changed. It is expensive running a club at this level and the bill runs into 7 figures, cup money does not go far compared to that, what little there is of it disappears quick.

Re: Cost of BSP footy
I think you would loose the argument. Our gates sunk to about 800-850 as our promotion season in BSN pressed on. We went unbeaten for 22 games in the end, can not do much better than that but the gates still went down. It was not until the last couple of games that our gates suddenly shot up. Unless we are leading the table and looking like going up I doubt the fans would turn up. People just lost interest, it was the last minute success they turned up for. Just as our gates have sunk since we gained promotion, people have lost interest again, that and money is a more pressing matter. We have no idea if we could be a top 5 BSN side, we certainly would not retain many if any players from this level and going part-time again would be the order of the day.Steeley wrote:Could be argued that if we were in the league below and in the playoff hunt upwards then we'd get higher gates.Barrowabc wrote:So 'if' we go down we'll be better off ? It would be all change in every respect if we went down and we would be fighting it out mid-table with a completely new (part-time) side with no chance of putting on a promotion push for a season or two.

I'd imagine we'd need some significant geographical upheaval to take place for that one to occur.ahippy wrote:the BSS is not where we should be playing

21,223 x 30 divide by 3 = 212,230 and 25,190 x 15 divide by 3 = 125,950 and 25,123 x 15 divide by 3 = 125,615, totals (463,795)K_BFC wrote:

When you add the 2 Oxford games where approx 10,000 paid and average of approx 15 quid , divide by 3 = 50,000
Also the prize money alone to reach the 3rd round proper = 55,000 x 3 recent cup runs to reach this round =165,000
FA Trophy semi final & Final winners recieve 70,000
J Walker sale 50,000 Council 10 year final gift payment 50,000
All of the above alone = 848,795
IMO when you add in the Brentford TV money , Sunderland highlights cash, the 2 Bournmouth games gate split & all the extra sponsorship & souvenir & coach money proffits *& earlier Trophy rounds prize monies and other bit n bobs then surely nigh on a MILLION POUNDS have come and gone through the BoDs hands..........Question is where has this money been spent & what on exactly ?
