Am I the only one confused here ?
The general noises coming out of the club "seems" to be that they are going for a campaign of promotion next season, Why ? Is my question.
They had spent the last few seasons saying how we are not able to compete with this national league both on or off it, Playing, financially & Infrastructure wise, Infact everything wise really.
So what's the point of spending the extra cash required to try to achieve instant promotion then (( if )) we reach it struggle on again ? Its daft IMHO.
Are you the fan base happy with this, Or would you rather the club spent the next few seasons getting the club as a whole regrouped and begin to solidify & build a proper sustainable platform for a realistic promotion push in 2 or 3 seasons ?
I would like to know how many fans want the instant promotion push or the total sustainable rebuild.
There's problems with both quests but we all want sustainability don't we ?

Mike, they can't come out and say we dont want to go up whether they do or not. What is that going to do to the floaters/ stay aways.
Re: Am I the only one confused here ?
Of course I'd want the club to go straight back up, but if the only case of solidifying the club was to consolidate for a 2 or 3 years, I'd probably take it, accompanied by a couple of decent cup runs.
If we go for it next year, I firmly believe we can get crowds up to 1500 on good results alone. Then again, things need to be sorted financially off the pitch as well - corporate really needs to be filled, shirts to be delivered on time etc.
It's going to be an interesting season, next season. But we're yet to finish this season! There's going to be a lot of happenings between now and the start of next season before we can properly gauge our expectations, IMO.

It won't be easy next season and I hope people don't have any high expectations. Stockport probably thought they would do OK in the Conference!

KHayman's nailed it. How pilloried was T Keen when he didn't say that we're better off in the BSN?KHayman wrote:Mike, they can't come out and say we dont want to go up whether they do or not. What is that going to do to the floaters/ stay aways.

Not nailed on IMHO, Sure some will be put off, but id bet that others would welcome it as a proper attempt to get the club back on track and going about things the correct way and building it up slowly, many of the stay aways are probably sick of the club jizzing their hard earned on players who just don't care enough to show up and fight for the team & club and take the easy money.Alhosk wrote:KHayman's nailed it. T Keen was rightly pilloried for a silly negative comment.

But they have had 5 years to do that AB failed & were going backwards suggests the 2 transfer embargo, So it probably much easier to build up from the regional league than the national level.A.B. wrote:Of course I'd want the club to go straight back up, but if the only case of solidifying the club was to consolidate for a 2 or 3 years, I'd probably take it, accompanied by a couple of decent cup runs.

Eh? I'm not saying break the bank for promotion, I'm saying don't say "we need to make sure we're shit enough to not get promoted" which is exactly comparable to what Tony Keen was made out to have said and what you're saying now. So I'm going to rightly pillory you for a silly negative comment.Mike Wilson wrote:Not nailed on IMHO, Sure some will be put off, but id bet that others would welcome it as a proper attempt to get the club back on track and going about things the correct way and building it up slowly, many of the stay aways are probably sick of the club jizzing their hard earned on players who just don't care enough to show up and fight for the team & club and take the easy money.Alhosk wrote: KHayman's nailed it. Re: Am I the only one confused here ?
Afraid it all started with the summer embargo that the club kept quiet from us all ,and let DB take all the flak from fans for not (seemingly)moving in the transfer market.Thats where it all began to go tits up!This probably went a long way as to why there was a summer shut down at HS.Requests for help turned down.Everything late.Steel helmet time.DB said he had players lined up.Well now we know why it never happened. And why wouldn't they have come to HS? We had just finished mid table and would have looked like a club on the up.Yep.Afraid for me it all stemmed from the farce of summer.DB left to pick up players no one else wanted. And yes we did have to take those players unless we wanted to start the season with 11 or less players on the books.DB has gone up in my estimation for accepting that flak and deflecting the crap away from the board. Some will say it would have done the club no favours to broadcast to one and all about the summer embargo at the time, especially when we were trying to recruit. But hey look where we are today.Honesty isn't synonymous with football today i know, but to sit back and watch your manager get it in the neck was just plain wrong.Onward and upward.

Re: Am I the only one confused here ?
People make it way too complicated.
We set a realistic budget for next season.
We tell the manager to do as well as he can with it.
If we somehow get up, we do the same the following season.
Our problems have been caused by using poor projections to create bad budgets, which have then been wasted by shopping in the wrong market places.
It really shouldn't be that hard to run a football club and keep it from going bust. Just exercise caution with your budgets and take what you get.
We've basically failed miserably at trying to solve what is a pretty simple maths problem.

P.S. No embargo in summer. We get players(hopefully) DB has earmarked.Start season better.Att decent.job done.Thats simple enough.I agree though about over complicating things.

TBH, I haven't even read through the thread, as I can well imagine the sort of things people are saying.

Re: Am I the only one confused here ?
In reponse to Mike's post I don't know what reports you've heard to suggest that we are gonna be up at the top of Conf North challenging for the title or sweep all before us next season. At the awards ceremony BK gave a typically upbeat speech to say we would be back but not to the level that we would win the title next season. TBH it's his job to say that and be upbeat. He aint gonna come out and say we aren't gonna challenge as that would just turn fans away.
In response to ant we had a transfer embargo at the start of the season due to players complaining they were owed money when they weren't and we wrongly had an embargo placed on us that was soon lifted when the truth was found out (allegedly). The embargo at New Year was due to having no cash coming in through December but was also a shambles when the board would have been better telling us the truth instead of lying to us and treating us like imbeciles.
The board made a huge mistake after Wembley with their budget figure for the following season basing it on higher crowds than we actually got and we lost 171k that season. All of the problems since then have pretty much come as a result of that. The reason we cannot get good players now is that we can't afford to pay decent money because of the debts we racked up the season after Wembley. However in the 2 seasons before that we made over 250K and much of that was used to pay off debts, now the debts have been built back up but it looks like the directors are the ones who are owed money as well as a few creditors.
After the game a number of players were complaining that they were still owed money so hopefully that will be resolved asap and we won't have a transfer embargo at the start of next season.
