Bit of an exaggeration!bluebird90 wrote:Is this BARROW AFC or Bayliss Mates XI?
We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.
Re: local lads
Interesting statement in the EM tonight that Bayles is thinking of adding Scott Redhead to his backroom staff for coaching and scouting. Surely this would only be locally-based which might mean that at last some links are being sought.
Personally I have always punted a fairly radical solution. Why have we never tried to forge close links with Holker ?. They play at a higher level than any other local teams. I would source the best half-dozen lads from within a 20-25 mile radius. Dual-register them with Holker who would use them most of the time meantime keeping track of their progress. They would be integrated into the squad when Holker weren't playing even if it was just as a team-bonding exercise. We would have first-call on them in emergencies and as time went on the numbers could be amended where necessary
Surely its time all parties sat down and thrashed out a solution. Financially it has to be the future though there will always be fans against it. Historically the Furness area has always produced good players for us and other teams

Re: local lads
I think Scott scouted for Accy last year. He actually did pre match analysis of how teams set up and presented them to the manager. Not just scouting for talent but helping teams set up against their opponents.
It is hard enough to remember my opinions, without also remembering my reasons for them!

Was talking to someone today who said Scott is very highly thought of and has already done alot of work for Championship sides scouting players and teams,he has also led the warm up in both games so far.

Yep, cracking player in an age group that many thought 4 or 5 would make it. Best achievement, one made the Chorley team after being released from some Premiership factory (Callum O' Connor?)Wintergreen wrote:As an aside, did you know that former local schoolboy sensation Max Wiper was at Man Utd then Blackburn academies from the age of 11, when that didn’t work out he turned to rugby league and now plays for Barrow RL!

I think a solution near this was suggested re ressies about 3 years ago but was knocked back. Others better involved might know.SKIPPER wrote:Interesting statement in the EM tonight that Bayles is thinking of adding Scott Redhead to his backroom staff for coaching and scouting. Re: local lads
Didn't Swabba get offered peanuts so stopped part time? In this league would probably have been decent enough.bluebird90 wrote:Why is Bayliss not holding a session in Barrow once a week? Maybe that would determine the commitment of the players he is currently trialling?
There are certainly better players locally than some of the players he has played in the last 5 years. Its all well and good having docs development centre but in my view they wouldn't stand a chance regardless of ability. Look at the likes of Swarbrick, I doubt his commitment can be questioned having travelled to FC united and Lancaster regularly for training and games, but despite starring in the select last year he was hardly looked at while we watched players come into the side with less ability and no heart time after time. I fear we may see the same this year and continue to do so.
Is this BARROW AFC or Bayliss Mates XI?
Who, exactly, is better in the town?
Young left back a few years back. (Morris?) Could have sat on the bench but wasn't really ready and needed a season at Kendal or the like. Was a bit unlucky.
Watched Brad Hubbold about 3- 4 times...maybe but hardly the greatest
We won't have locals in the team much unless we get relegated a league or two. If everything is right with the local junior clubs and amateurs, how come no-one from Barrow has played at a decent level for maybe 20 years? I really am all for youth development, massively support what Doc's doing but some of the rubbish spouted by local players and their mates gets my goat. Much easier to slag off the local semi pro club than make any changes to what you and your pals do yourselves. 20 years + and all B.A.F.C's fault? Do me a favour.

Re: local lads
That is exactly the type of attitude that comes out of the club. My point is that we have played players in the past year for short periods of time that are not as good as local players. Last week was an example of the heart and desire that local lads can show, given the opportunity to take part in a decent pre season there is no reason why a couple can't make our SQUAD.barrowaberdeen wrote:Didn't Swabba get offered peanuts so stopped part time? There is plenty of lads from Barrow released from clubs at PL or championship level in the last 20 years, these are the sort of lads that we as a club have tended to take on - just not the ones from Barrow.
Having just one or two local lads would also boost the crowd in my opinion. There is lads from Liverpool/ Manchester being given trials left right and centre but none from this area, which to me seems a farce, at least give them a chance. Until we do we will never know.
Re: local lads
OK if you ignore the facts I guess.
From Friday's NWEM:
Keeper Chris Lavery, who shone for Furness Select in their 1-0 win over the Bluebirds on Saturday, made a brief substitute’s appearance against Gateshead.
Said Bayliss: “He will be invited back again to show us what he can do. I thought he was outstanding against Barrow for the Furness Select, so he deserves that chance.”

Re: local lads
I was told by a good source 2 lads rang Bayliss up after the Furness XI saying they hadn't done themselves justice and wanted to come down to training. Bayliss said no worries we wont be training for a couple of weeks because of games. He then said a date they could come to training and they both said they had something on so couldn't go. That's the problem these locals care more about what their doing with the lads on Saturday night rather than their football. Obviously there will be the odd exception.

Re: local lads
Heywood, Hubbold and Dix all had good games - young lads that given the right training could get better and will no doubt improve if given the chance to gain experience. No player goes in to a higher level completely ready for it, so the argument that they are not good enough is flawed unless they are given the opportunity to train, just like Bayliss's other unproven players are.Hadrian wrote:OK if you ignore the facts I guess.

Possibly the most worrying point. How many other teams don't train because they have games.....KHayman wrote:I was told by a good source 2 lads rang Bayliss up after the Furness XI saying they hadn't done themselves justice and wanted to come down to training. Bayliss should be bending over backwards to accommodate players wanting to prove their worth! Its pre season!

All other teams which are part-time and in a re-building proces. Jesus-Christ the man can't be 2 places at one time can he? It's not like he's on the couchbluebird90 wrote:

at home watching the tour. He's trying to get a team together. The team plays games every 3-4 days on a part time basis.
He could get these 2-3 guys down to a practise session and do what? Shots on a goal with no goalkeeper? Take some air in please.
If these guys want to prove themselves they can come to a training when training is held. If they can't fit that into their busy schedule of work, studying etc. then they certainly does'nt have what it takes.

So how are the other triallists given opportunities then?
