Brackley earn first victory as Barrow struggle going forward
Barrow: McMillan, Burns, Edwards, Williams, O’Donnell, Hulbert, Meechan, Davies, Bowen, Arnison, Mills
65: Johnson replaced Bowen
74: Harvey replaced Davies
81: Moyo replaced Arnison
Booked: Bowen (foul on McDonald, 12)
Brackley Town: Turley, Cartwright, McDonald, Odhiambo, Sharpe, Austin, Reid, Solkhon, Griffin, Kaziboni, Walker
85: Towers replaced Kaziboni
90+1: Mulligan replaced Griffin
GOAL: Reid (64)
Considering the horrendous conditions and the holiday season, a decent crowd of 884 turned up to see the first Skrill North match. Barrow started brightly with two Mills corners in the first couple of minutes but heavy blustery showers soon dampened proceedings. Nothing came from another Barrow corner in the 21st minute, this time delivered by Davies, or from a Mills/Bowen attack. Brackley then stepped up the pressure.
In the 28th minute, Brackley’s goalkeeper Billy Turley launched a free kick which McMillan couldn’t hold, O’Donnell clearing from the penalty area. Both McMillan and Robbie Williams were injured in this attack and play for stopped for 5 minutes while both received treatment.
Brackley’s best chance of the half came in the 44th minute when Reid sliced a Walker cross over the bar from close range. In added time, Cartwright blasted well over following a Reid corner.
The rain stopped at half time but the Brackley pressure continued. A Paul Edwards tackle on Walker saved an almost certain goal three minutes in. However, in the 64th minute, Brackley scored the only goal of the match, Izak Reid cutting through the Barrow defence and slotting into an empty net.
We then made our first substitution, Dale Johnson replacing Aaron Bowen. In the 70th minute, we had our only real chance of the match, a goalmouth scramble including Burns, Johnson and Hulbert bringing a close range save from Turley.
Further Barrow substitutions, Alex-Ray Harvey and Cliff Moyo replacing Richard Davies and Gareth Arnison, unfortunately did little to improve a lack of incisiveness. In the 90th minute, Johnson and Moyo combined for an attack but it was too little, too late.
It’s early days and the new Barrow team hasn't yet had chance to gell. Over the coming weeks we need to build a positive attacking strike force to boost the crowds.

Re: Brack;ey earn first victory as Barrow struggle going for
Now is it just me or is this going to be the norm for the rest of the season ?
As if every time we lose a game every player, bod gets aload of [SwearFilter] fired into them
We are a whole new team ffs we are not going to bond as fast as we would like
We start off with a loss and I'm sure it won't be the last (so what)
I trust in dave Baylis and trust in our club.
I'm sure there will always be those who'll knock the club no matter what,
I will never be one of those (I hope). I'll be there at our next game and I can't
Comment on today not been there, but hopefully there'll be massive improvement
And we'll come away with a good few wins

Agreed we must give the team time as they are only just starting to get to know one another.
In the conditions, today was a fairly solid defensive performance. We we now need to build on that going forward and gain confidence. I'm sure our players have the ability to do this.
Now if I was a Carlisle supporter, I would be getting worried .....!

Moyo was a very strange sub

What are you going on about?? I can only think you've posted this in the wrong thread as Barrow Lad's reoprt was just that, a match report. It wasn't firing into anyone.Barrowabc wrote:Now is it just me or is this going to be the norm for the rest of the season ?

Re: Brackley earn first victory as Barrow struggle going for
Carlisle are struggling that's for sure, however their BoD has asked for help from investors and actually put the club up for sale in the long term interests of the club. That's a sensible thing to do to try and prevent their slide, they have realised that doing nothing would not be a good option. Does anyone think there is an example here that Barrow could learn from?Barrow Lad wrote:Agreed we must give the team time as they are only just starting to get to know one another.

Re: Brackley earn first victory as Barrow struggle going for
Not gonna get too disheartened about a first game result.
They're meant to be one of the best sides in the league and even with the fact they're a gelled experienced CN team who had the ref in their back pocket all game they were still only a little less shit then us.
The worry for me is the worry I've always had with Bayliss' teams. We don't ever set our teams up in any actual way or have any game plan. It's just eleven men sent out to try and stumble on a win.
If you asked Bayliss how we intend to score goals, what his plans are I doubt he could answer. Are we trying to play down the wings and willing high balls in? Work the ball into the box? Counter on the break? Because right now we don't seem to be doing any of those things and didn't really look like scoring in a month of Sundays.
Some of the best stuff we've played was at the start of two seasons ago with Mackreth and Dominic Rowe bombing down the wings then putting balls into the box. That was a team playing with purpose who actually knew what they were trying to do. I get the feeling ours don't, almost as if we don't know what we should be doing to win football matches and are hoping to win them by accident.
We were never gonna score in a month of Sundays through our own endeavour yesterday and is it any wonder... I like Davies and Hulbert but they're both defensive battling midfielders rather than creative ball players. Alex Meechan for all his work and I do like him doesn't have a single characteristic or attribute of a winger. He's never one in a million years. Bowen and Arnison will score goals with service but they're not the sort of player who'll drop deep and pick it up to make things happen. That means you're leaving any chance of creating anything to Mills who is pretty woeful IMO.
Terrible team selection and it does make me worry what if this is actually a decent BSN side but we just can't trust Bayliss to get the best out of them and win football matches.
ARH or Sheridan in for Davies and Parkinson for Meechan next game please and let's actually look like we're trying to do something.

To be fair Ste, I don't think them conditions suited anyone yesterday, never mind a player like ARH.Ste Story wrote:ARH or Sheridan in for Davies and Parkinson for Meechan next game please and let's actually look like we're trying to do something.
I'm really happy that Hulbert has signed again & I thought Davies did ok (although I seem to be in a minority on that one) but I think once ARH has settled back in he'll be a regular again, whether that's at the expense of Davies or Hulbert remains to be seen.
I can't see us carrying on with two similar players in midfield though.
We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.

Don't get me wrong I wasn't having a dig at Davies or Hulbert I like and rate them both I think they're just too similar and offer very little going forward which is fine if you have someone else who can but not ok if you're alongside the same.spirit of 1990 wrote:To be fair Ste, I don't think them conditions suited anyone yesterday, never mind a player like ARH.Ste Story wrote:ARH or Sheridan in for Davies and Parkinson for Meechan next game please and let's actually look like we're trying to do something.
