It is a worring fact that, of the twelve goals we have scored so far this season, no fewer than four have been penalties; and a awarding a penalty was probably the last thing on the referee's mind, despite many strange decisions made by Michelin Man and his two assistants. Apart from Lacey's first half attempt (which was just off target) we showed a marked reluctance to have a shot at goal. We didn't give former Barrow 'keeper and ex-jailbird Ashley Timms anything to do.Si_Nichols wrote:we need to learn how to shoot rather than the powderpuff efforts we had today.

Agree. We never look like scoring goals in open play.It was the same last season.I'm never that confident we're going to get back into the game after we concede.
The league table is starting to have an all too familiar look about it and for all the banter i can't even see us scoring too many goals against Atherstone next week.

Despite all of this City still got 30,000 each home game. The football they played was some of the worst in the clubs history but rather than not going to games and damaging a club that was at that time in serious financial trouble, they all turned up for the Macc game but decided to turn their backs on the game to show their feelings. Sounds childish but it made them feel better and in their view they were not making the problem even worse.
We need numbers back through the turnstiles now. If people had turned their backs on the club under Wilson we wouldn't have seen the success we had just around the corner from the Wison era.
I'm glad you took my point in the way it was meant SB & not a personal attack on your end of post view.
I don't like some board members and I have no respect whatsoever for the manager. I was coming to games hoping we lost to hasten Bayliss' exit.
Once I realised that the man is virtually unsackable I lost hope.
You wouldn't go into a bar where the landlord hated you but needed your money to stay in business and your beer was served by a barman that was a violent liar.
You would probably drink somewhere else and think '[SwearFilter] them, I hope they get what's coming'.
That's pretty much where I'm at right now.

I echo what Si says, which is hardly surprising since they are mainly my opinions he stole whilst sat opposite me on the train back to London.Si_Nichols wrote:Nothing to choose between the two poor sides (though probably about par for the quality of this league) and we were beaten in the end by a goal that came after two fouls against us in the build up, an unlucky deflection and a shot that McMillan should have saved. That said he made two good saves in the first half and was not to blame for the defeat.
The linesman near our end was about twelve and had possibly he worst game I have ever seen an official have. Even the Boston fans sitting behind him were in fits at the decisions he gave for them. Duran Reynolds was easily MOTM with Eddy, [SwearFilter] Davies, Burns and Johnson also having decent games and Allen did well when he came on. Williams was, as has been said, truly dreadful with Arnison not far behind.
I cannot believe that we were segregated in the corner of the ground when there were only just over 30 of us but clearly Boston have lost all grip on reality. All their steward could tell me when I questioned him about it was that they used to have 70 stewards when they were in the football league. Well hate to tell you this but you ain't any more and on the evidence of today you are no more likely than us to be back there this century.
Despite the result, a good day out as always with the Exiles and at least some signs of improvement performance wise. Biggest positive was we made subs early and tried to get back into the game but we need to learn how to shoot rather than the powderpuff efforts we had today.
Here's the only usable footage I got - Dale Johnson clipping the ball over in the 2nd minute. Little did we know it would be late in the second half before we got another decent chance; that one would be cleared off the line. Worthy of note is the vantage point allocated to away fans at Boston. Unless they revise that policy, I won't be returning.

Re: The Boston Thread.
Boston fan in peace. We have had the segregation for many a year. In the football league seasons the away fans were given the town end but then again the football league teams brought alot more fans. Stockport will be given the town end as they are likely to bring a fair few. But a few seasons a go we gave gainsborough the town end on boxing day as we hoped they would bring a good following. Yet instead they brought a measely 26. That is one reason why you get the corner. It will be the same at stockport, it will be segregated and it seems the same for clubs which have dropped from out of the league.
As for the game, it was hardly a classic. Boston were without influential players marc newsham and scott garner. First half had limited chances withbarrow being quite big and physical and boston trying to play short and quick. Second half boston were forced into a couple of changes due to further injurys and took the lead. From a lob from ricky miller though the keeper almost helped it into the net. Barrow introduced mills who i thought were going to worry boston a fair bit but our patched up defence held despite a late flurry of half chances for barrow but didn't even test timms.
Boston will play better and get less than 3 points and barrow probably deserved a point

Re: The Boston Thread.
Segregation seemed completely unneccessary, to be honest, and a waste of your club's resources; there were at least four stewards and one police officer to look after thirty of us - many towards the upper end of the age spectrum. Plus of course the need to open extra turnstiles and an extra snack bar especially for us!Shortybufc wrote:Boston fan in peace. We have had the segregation for many a year. Personally, I much prefer to be able to mix with the other team's supporters during a match, to get a different perspective on the game. And of course to change ends at half time!
I made it 30 - or did you boost the numbers by counting the stewards? Perhaps a recount is needed!Shortybufc wrote:Confirmed as 34 barrow fans

Re: The Boston Thread.
The 34 was confirmed on our clubs match twitter page. If you wanted to i'm sure the club allows aay fans into the main stand. I understand it probably not nessesary for the whole segregation but its the clubs rules. Us fans used to switch ends yet there was still segregagtion but we had some issues with some fans "trying to fight north ferriby fans in the play off game. There is a highlights video for the match at http://youtu.be/rgXwl6WqUYo. Not sure you can say 3 players were down injured when we scored.

I think one person did say that but I mentioned there were two fouls in the build-up. Unfortunately these happen just before the moment the highlights package starts the clip for the goal. If you look around 5:17 when the clip starts you can actually see the second Barrow player just getting up from the foul. The first one happened about 5 seconds before this from memory.Shortybufc wrote:The 34 was confirmed on our clubs match twitter page. Cheers for the highlights - it confirms that there wasn't much in the game but also that we could have played all week and not scored.
