Atherston Matters

Post by Ralph » Thu Feb 13, 2014 8:29 pm

From the next HSN, thought I'd share the good news with you.

ATHERSTONE MATTERS
Derek Wilson has been in touch to say that Warwickshire Police have advised him that they had arrested 33 people and will be charging 29 of them in connection with the crowd disturbances at Atherstone when we played them in the FA Trophy back on 12 October 2013.

Good!

With the proof the police had (photos, facebook comments etc) it would have been a disgrace not to have charged a high amount of them.

Now to see what they get.
We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.

I thought they had already been charged and were due to appear in court towards the end of this month.

Hope they throw the book at them. No football fan should have gone through what our fans went through that day.
Steve Herbert supports the nob theory - Saturday 4th February 2012.

If this bus crashed and everybody on it died, Barrow football would end - Daz Boyle, Boston away, August 9th 2014.

They have to appear first at a Magistrate court and from there to Crown Court, hopefully the court were the Nuneaton 'fans' recieved prison sentences.

Atherstone Update
I have been contacted today by DC Amanda Jackson from Warwickshire Police who are dealing with those involved during the violence at the Atherstone V Barrow AFC Cup game earlier this season.
She has informed me that of the 33 people initially arrested the Crown Prosecution Service has agreed that 29 of them will be charged with violent disorder. Each of these will now formally be charged and will attend the local Magistrates Court on the 28th February to be charged and given bail. Due to the nature of the offences committed those charged will have to be dealt with by the Crown Court at a date yet to be arranged as the offences and therefore likely sentences are greater than can be dealt with by the local Magistrates Court.
It is anticipated that a number of these individuals will indeed receive custodial sentences but that is obviously for the courts to decide in due course.
She has also asked me to inform all those who have either given statements or was indeed a victim on the day that she will endeavor to do her best to contact each and every single person individually over the days ahead to inform them personally of the situation. As you can appreciate as she explained to me she and her colleagues will be very busy over the next few days visiting these 29 individuals and giving them the news of their impending court appearance on the 28th together with the charges they will be facing.
When I get any further updates I will keep you informed.

There's a 49 year old man in that list! [SwearFilter] sake, if you haven't learned in your previous 48 years that attacking defenseless women and kids isn't the done thing then you never will, just put the [SwearFilter] down and be done with it.

There is still about 30 they are looking for but these appear to not come from atherstone and may be harder to find.
