Im sorry mike but i do remember massive damaged being caused to the pitch when some tool spilt petrol from on the generators onto the pitch, leaving a massive burn mark for most of the season.
As much as yes i like the community aspect of these galas the time has to come where the club looks after number 1 and that is having a playing surface which is fit for purpose

very fair comment Adam. but this was i am sad to say against the organisers decision and one of our FORMER directors gave permision for the said genorator to be used in that location, It should have been OFF THE PLAYING AREA AND PLACED ON A BOARD to prevent the scorch marks. the same said Former director was also responsible for the brown snake like damage across the Cross bar end goal mouth when weed killer was spilt all over a hose pipe and without trying to clear it, draged the hose across the pitch. i can fully see the points raised Adam and i not not disagreing with any of them. but damage can be caused by the simplest of things. on a positive note I can not see any such gala days occuring in the forseeable future once the takeover has gone through.

roll on the season.

so very sorry Mr Perfect. when questions are asked please try to ask them direct to the experts. i agree i am no expert on pitches Mr Blue but i have been present at every gala day held at Holker st, so i can say for a fact that there is NO DAMAGE CAUSED TO THE PITCH dear boy. and no i am not offended hahaha. how can anyone be offended by a keyboard
have a walk down th the ground on sunday 22nd and see for yourself. it will only cost you £1.
if you aren`t offended why the snide"dear boy" remark ? and oh if you want to point score, if i wanted to inspect the playing surface wouldn`t i see the pitch the next day AFTER THE EVENT!? ,I only made the remarks because i want our team to do well,i think they were valid points for god`s sake grow up!

Have "the experts" ever given a view?

I'm glad I asked the initial question. From the answers, it looks like this will be the final time the Gala will be held on the pitch so hopefully it won't rain that weekend.

Without doubt a worthy event but I think most people would agree it probably shouldn't be held on a football pitch so close to the start of a new season.

In my dealings over the years I've found that any successful business or football club for that matter, are usually the ones that get the "small things" right.

I've been to pro clubs training sessions where they've had a retired person help with laying out the cones, providing drinks, collecting balls, moving goalposts etc. I've also been to Football League sides where the players have trained in different training kits, used old muddy balls, and trained on uneven pitches.

No prizes for guessing which club got promotion and which struggled.

That's the thing that's impressed me about Paul Casson after reading his comments, I'm left with the impression that when the takeover does goes through, he will adopt his successful business approach (getting the small things right) and transfer those skills into running a football club.

Recent events

Old Trafford - Football Aid
St James Park - Kings of Leon
Wembley - Boxing
Ethiad - Magic weekend and One direction
DW and Huddersfield - super league season
Bloomfield Road - Rod Stewart

I doubt a couple of dancers will ruin the pitch and I am sure that Casson will look to maximise the facilities with the local community!

Its attitudes like these that give the community a bad view of some supporters - get off your high horse/computer and get out more

An observation if I may?

All of those pitches are in far better condition than ours to start with and no doubt will stand the usage much better.

I think the point is that our pitch has been neglected for so long it needs serious work and anything which disrupts this can't be helpful?

I don't know about the other grounds but when I have been to concerts at Wembley Stadium the pitch has been completely covered over.
It isn't a matter of "being on a high horse" as you put it to want to have a decent pitch for the players to ply their trade. It is a football ground at the end of the day. Are you a dancer by any chance Bluebird90?

And I bet the promoters all paid a fortune to COVER the pitch properly so it wasn't damaged. Chalk and cheese comparing these venues to HS.

The boards kept under the main stand for the dancing........Have they not been used for something else?

Just had a look in the ground as I drove passed & nearly all that top soil/sandy stuff has been spread over the pitch by a tractor towing a machine that is punching holes about the diameter of a pen into the ground, not sure what that does & didn't want to stop matey-boy & ask.

Anyway, work has started on it :D
We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.
