Craig Barrass pulled up beside me and Stu post match asking if we had seen or heard anything (I haven't) and said that there are prints on the "grenade" anyway so surely this wouldn't be difficult to solve...or he was lying in the hope that me and Stu were covering for someone (we weren't). I doubt this would have been anything more than the trivial issue it is if the steward involved hadn't aggravated a load of regular fans trying to watch the game.

If this bus crashed and everybody on it died, Barrow football would end - Daz Boyle, Boston away, August 9th 2014.

PS. A sincere suggestion...if the club/police/stewards are concerned about things like this happening then stick a steward at tje back of the Holker end to keep a watchful eye. They do it in the popular side to catch and stop people smoking there.

But seriously what was the steward meant to do? he HAS to try & remove the flare, if the police had been there they would have HAD to remove it. If it had been the police it would have been dealt with without innocent people getting pushed or nearly knocked over because the idiots who tried their hardest to block, push & in on instance push a shoulder into the steward would have slunk into the background.

I'm not bothered either way about flares in grounds but the law that say's they aren't allowed in grounds not some steward who has taken a dislike to them. All the positives around the club at the moment & someone risks getting a ban & missing out on what promisies to be a great season......I don't get it!
We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.

Because they are trying to look good or impress others maybe or they are too stupid to realise that they are doing neither.

Apparently the guidelines say that they are supposed to let them burn out (smokes that is, unsure about flares as they pose a risk of burning someone). Even if that is untrue the way is not to go throwing punches at people because that would just provoke a reaction. One lad I was stood next to was elbowed in the head and got quite annoyed. If my suggestion was implemented on Tuesday then the smoke probably wouldn't have been set off and if it had there would have been someone on hand who could have retrieved it quickly and probably caught the culprit.

AS our Safety Officer correctly asserts, these devices burn at upwards of ten thousand degrees and are not designed to be held aloft in large crowds of people. THE consequences can be quite devastating, moreso when one considers that children stand on that very same terrace.

IF one is ignited in the Main Stand, I will have zero hesistation in reporting the culprit to the nearest crowd marshall.

Think you are confusing what was detonated with a flare. Boylie will correct me.

Yes I think he is. Flares do burn with high intensity and can cause damage.
I know the picture on the police twitter showed a picture of the offending article from Tuesday and it said smoke grenade on the side. This for me is just a marketing ploy from the manufacturer it's not a grenade.
Smoke grenades burn with phosphorus and are initiated by a pin being pulled like the miltary L83A1.

. I noticed(and I was several metres away) that the steward picked it up, if it was a smoke grenade he would now have hands like Simon Weston.

I'm not condoning any of the actions of people in the ground I just dislike it when there is awful reporting like that in the evening mail tonight about these incidents making the articles used sound like WMD.

It isn't the only one either. One was let off in our area at Boston as the teams came out. If anyone has asthma or breathing difficulties it could cause problems.

Not condoning if in any way but I probably inhaled some of the smoke at Boston and probably Holker Street Tuesday (although I seen what I thought was a firework and moved a fair bit away this time) and I have asthma to the point I am taking steroids for my chest, other crappy tablets, inhalers etc and I wasn't affected.
