They are unpleasant even if you don't suffer from those afflictions. Especially in an enclosed space, where some of our 'fans' have released them in the past, e.g. Stockport last season.

As written by Barrowaberdeen a complete over reaction which isnt even news at other clubs.

Sometimes the town can let itself down with the over reaction.

I doubt the person will do it again its the first one let off by a Barrow fan at home in years hardly the crime of the century.

The police didnt arrest and persue the Workington fan last season? Always the Barrow supporters our police and stewards enjoy punishing.

Wasn’t going to get involved on this one but needs addressing in my view. Yes the evening mail’s reporting on the smoke canister was sensationalised but if that gets the message across so be it! There is zero tolerance around the use of these devices and the likes. Some of the stewarding does leave a lot to be desired and does need addressing, so go through the correct channels and that part can surely be resolved with our new owner. Let’s not let this bit of triviality cloud over what has been so positive thus far. Remember this is the same evening mail that helped reignite the Paul Casson bid and we will all be grateful for that!

Wonder what would happen if an away fan let a smoke bomb off at Holker Street

A message from Paul

All,

I have read the debate on the use of for want of a better term, " things you have to light which then emit smoke".

From the clubs point of view, the FA has instructed clubs to take a very hard line. They are being backed up by Judges who will typically impose a three month custodial sentence for those caught simply attempting to bring one into a football ground. The ban from attending football grounds following conviction is normally much longer than one season.

This is not a judgement issue, if the club is not seen to be serious about this issue, the FA can and will start imposing penalties. The referee will normally put such an event in their match report, at which point the FA is forced to take action. Fortunately in this case, he did not.

Finally there is the clubs liability. Should anyone subsequently claim damage from such an event, be it breathing difficulties, emotional distress, burns, whatever, the club will then be required to legally defend itself, which is a distraction we don't need.

Barrow, at present, is in the news for mostly the right reasons. There are many who would probably like to drag us down. Please don't give them ammunition, if you will forgive the pun. There has to be other ways of enjoying a football game which are less intrusive.

Regards

Paul

How does it work with fireworks and pyro at games when the teams come out etc? I recall a woman getting one in the face a few years ago? Wolves? I guess if its organised its ok for h & S reasons.

Im not saying, well i am saying in fact that smoke pellets are less dangerous.

Im not for it or against it to be honest, looks good in a big / enclosed area in the middle of feb night match but not in an open area with no lid on it.
