Lancaster Branch wrote:Bitty first half, played very well second half, especially when we got it down and knocked it about a bit. Poor pitch though so that made it difficult at times I reckon. Haworth impresses me every time I see him - pacy, direct, skillful, good cross on him. Nice to see/hear Danny Hurst getting a good reception too.

Oh and I came off the M6 a junction earlier than the diversion and sailed through Preston #lovelytime
First time I've been away this season, the way we played 2nd half will see us go up as Champions. The move and finish for the goal was as good as I've seen for a long time.

Especially with wide men like Haworth and Pilkington.
If they get the right service, then Cook, Guy and Walker also will with the crossing ability of that pair.

I thought that was a very thorough and professional job we did on Stockport last night. We controlled the first half apart from a 5-6 minute spell around 30 minutes in. They never actually got into our final third of the pitch until 20 mins had gone by and limited them to only one chance on target that was well smothered by Aaron Taylor although Jack Ryan was nearly put through until being well intercepted by Grand and Livesey who were rock solid all night.

The second half began at a quicker pace by both sides and it wasn’t long before Danny Hurst was called into action in the Stockport goal reacting quickly to beat Jason Walker to the ball everything positive for Barrow appeared to be engineered by Dan Pilkington and Andy Haworth.

Cook was soon put through but his fierce strike was wide of the mark although he hit his shot that hard the ball had to be replaced. Again it fell to Cook and it looked like he wasn’t going to be denied but for a last gasp tackle by O’Halloran on the edge of the box snuffing out another opportunity. There were half chances for County at the other end the most notable falling to Glover who’s long range shot was well collected by Taylor.

Pilkington ran himself to a standstill though not before providing the move of the night the ball was played to Pilkington wide on the left he then beat his man and with a pinpoint pass to the recently introduced Lewis Guy who finished very well to put us that all important goal ahead on 73 mins.
The closing minutes of the game came and went with us playing the sensible game and when we could eat down the clock. A complete team performance and another vitally important 3 points and a chance for the players to rest take stock and prepare for that final ten game countdown.

eventually got home around 01:40 after enduring an epic but happy ride home :scarf: :scarf:

Got to agree with Saltcellar; Pilkington and Howarth are class acts and just might supply enough ammunition for Cooky and Jase to fire us to the title.
Happy days (and nights).

Pretty good analysis there. First half wasn't pretty but we were the better side and restricted Stockports attacking threat (rarely, if at all, did I feel we were under threat of conceding). Second half we came out all guns blazing and a good spell of pressure then came. A great bit of build up play for Guy to bag his first goal for the club. Him and Haworth were immense for me, Pilks took his time to get into the game but when he did he was a threat. Once he's back up to full fitness he will be a massive boost for the team. The only thing that bugged me a bit was the constant short corners - a lot of them had nothing come of them. When Pilks hit a cross in straight from the corner we nearly took the lead courtesy of Grandy. Confidence is high now off the back of two decent away results and points on the board. Fylde can play down that they are just happy to be doing as well as they are this season but the fact is that they are in a title race. Any team still in the hunt at this stage of the season has to be under pressure to keep challenging. Glad to have the points on the board as I think Fylde will drop points again soon. All we can do is show a bit of consistency and attempt to keep winning as much as we can.
Steve Herbert supports the nob theory - Saturday 4th February 2012.

If this bus crashed and everybody on it died, Barrow football would end - Daz Boyle, Boston away, August 9th 2014.

Professional performance last night by the lads.We must have had 80% possession ,against, granted the worst team I've seen at this level, but you have to look at there home record. Looking forward to staly bridge now when I reckon we will be 3 points clear on level games by then.
Allways enjoy a chicken balti pie,but £3 a shot.

I've been on it a good few times since about 2006/07. Not sure about before then.

There has been a Man City Supporters Club in Barrow for years and years, naturally and with good reason they were low profile and used to 'congregate' in the tiny lounge of the Kings Hawcoat for many years.

There was also a 52-seater regularly set sail for Blackburn Rovers - haven't seen that in a while.

Report of the game from their resident scribe seems to say it as many on here have described. Except he's got the goalscorer wrong:

Don't do many aways but went last nite and thoroughly prom performance. Still need that bit of 10% luck and we won by a mile. Sorry state Stockport are in.
Still we are top by 4 points. Rather have the points than catch up. Fylde will be under immense pressure to beat Tamworth which I doubt as they are very difficult to beat and would like second place.

That's a good find and a good report on that blog, thanks for that link Nigel. The Stockport official report is here. They say 143 away fans were there.

Boot room 39 is up on YouTube. No sign of highlights yet.

EDIT: 4mins of highlights from Stockport County's youTube channel.
