Agree with you on Lacey, thought he did ok,while ARH was largely anonymous.Cowps gave the ball away to much with wayward passes and this is where we will come unstuck with the run in imo.Steeley wrote:Thought we played ok, another excellent win ground out. Think we need to use the ball more, 9 times out of 10 we bypass midfield, choosing to launch it forward then simply pass it to Lacey/ARH.
Lacey had a very good game IMO, was good on the ball and got very stuck in, worth his place in the team.
Guy had a good game too, tidy player, great to have so many attacking options, IF we were to go up, i dont think we will need to worry about strengthening up top too much.
Cowps did a decent job at left back, I dont think he looks too comfortable there and can sometimes look like he wants rid of the ball, solid performance all in all though.
Thought the fans were relatively well behaved from what I saw, comes with the territory of success, more fans coming to see us win and in some instances more people just out for a drink and to get rowdy.

Also Cowps is very one footed with no left footmally wrote:Agree with you on Lacey, thought he did ok,while ARH was largely anonymous.Cowps gave the ball away to much with wayward passes and this is where we will come unstuck with the run in imo.Steeley wrote:Thought we played ok, another excellent win ground out. Re: Stalybridge Celtic V Barrow AFC - Match Thread
I agree about ARH, his cameo appearances this season have been exciting, with his injection of energy coming off the bench, but as a starter yesterday he was oddly static. I also agree about us defending a bit deep after we went ahead. One of the things that impressed me at Stockport was the positive, professional way we defended the lead - in the opposition half. Yesterday was a partial return to the days when we used to hang on to a lead, sitting deeper and deeper, and giving possession away time and again. A better team than Stalybridge would have punished us yesterday. We are league leaders, we shouldn't be hanging onto slim leads, we should be closing games out confidently, like at Edgeley Park. That said...I'll take the points now however we get 'em.

Cracking tackle by Burnsy on 1:58 and the miss by Lewis Guy that I mentioned earlier on 4:58.
Looking at that they seemed to have more chances than I remembered yesterday...........Grolsch!!

We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.

This was one of the things the manager mentioned in his post-match interview. He was disappointed that they had sat too deeply and then messed around with the ball at the back trying to do stuff in our back third that should only be done in the front third (by which I think he meant playing the extra pass rather than just dealing with it).Moonwatcher wrote:Yesterday was a partial return to the days when we used to hang on to a lead, sitting deeper and deeper, and giving possession away time and again. It all comes 'round again.

"ARH was largely anonymous"
don`t forget he`s been out for a few weeks ! it will take at least 3 or 4 matches to get back to the levels we know he is capable of!,sometimes we are too quick to criticise!

I thought he was, however it doesnt help when the midfield if completely missed by the defence, countless times we would win the ball, and instead of passing it to the guy in front of him, the defender would launch it looking for cooky, which didnt help towards the end as we just kept giving up possession.

So, am I right in saying,
We don't want the defence to lump the ball to the front men
and
we don't want the defence to pass the ball short at the back,
????

Id prefer to see us attempt to pass the ball short between the defence/midfield initially, in an attempt to keep the ball, rather than spend most of the 2nd half being bombarded by Stalyvegas.

Filed were quite capable of exactly that, played the ball out well from the back and out wide keeping possession.Steeley wrote:Chadders wrote:So, am I right in saying,

Re: Stalybridge Celtic V Barrow AFC - Match Thread
Stalybridge slumped to another defeat tonight, 2-0 away at North Ferriby. They also had a player sent off in added time. They are 4 points from safety having played more games than those above them and they play away to BPA 1 place above them next. A big game for them.
It has been mentioned a few times before and again on BBC RC on Saturday that Stalybridge are a full time side. Given their poor league standing it doesn't seem to be doing them any favours as they almost went down last season. Did it look like Barrow were playing a full time out-fit? It was asked on RC what they would do if they are relegated, can't imagine a full time side so far down the non-league pyramid.

They're "full-time", but most of the players are on £150-£300 a week. Mostly students apparently, but they can train four/five times a week, so in that sense they are full-time.K_BFC wrote:Stalybridge slumped to another defeat tonight, 2-0 away at North Ferriby.
