Forest Green v Barrow match thread

Re: Forest Green v Barrow match thread
I'm aware I'v posted a few times on this but I'm bevvied up #Yolo
We did okay today for the first 15. Unlike some suggested we weren't battering them, unlike others said. It was a pen probs a ball to hand, the pen would have sufficed. Red card very harsh. 2nd goal was a soft free kick and the last two I can't remember that. 2nd half we huffed and puffed in the 80th minute but w wren't good enough. I honestly cant remember the game.

Slept on things and time for a more sombre look. We have lost two away games to the TOP TWO in the League. Had these two results been months apart few would have batted an eyelid. Time to draw a line and move on. If similar results continue then is the time to worry. As for the upcoming games Edmo has hinted at bringing in a centre back on loan but is that necessary ? I believe Fofana has played centre-back before. Drop him back, move Cowps up to CM (unless Paddy is fit) and give Brad Carroll a chance at RB. This to me would make more sense than bringing in someone unknown who hasn't trained with the squad and would take the three games just to bed in.

Re: Forest Green v Barrow match thread
I would imagine Cowperthwaite will go centre back
Re: Forest Green v Barrow match thread
I didn't say it was a story just wanted to know who it was. I'm happy to see players upset that they've been subbed shows desire he wants to playboyliegladbach wrote:Cook was typical cook when subbed, nothing malicious just typical passionate and disappointed cooky.tictactoe wrote:Who threw their shirt down in a strop when subbed or did livesey when sent off? everyone is entitled to their opinion, deal with it
Re: Forest Green v Barrow match thread
Most people would have been reasonably content with 3 points from the first 3 games. If we start getting turned over every away game, then it becomes a big problem.
Fofana has played centre back before, but Cowps did on last day of the season and I expect he will again. Possibly unrelated, but Courtney Meppen-Walter (Carlisle CB) is training with another club. Wouldn't want him personally, but if it was cover for times like these then could be a good signing.
Edmo will be just in the stand trying to get a better grasp on who's doing their jobs properly - loads of managers do it early in the season/when they take over a new team. Radio Cumbria remarked the other night how both managers were sat up near them in the stand. As with the Cook thing, it's a total non-story.
With 4 players out injured already (Wilson, Lacey, Symington, Pilks), I expect we'll bring in more than one on loan.

Re: Forest Green v Barrow match thread
I've read quite a few posts on here about Symington getting injured.
He was subbed to get grand on after Livesey red.
Didn't look injured.

Re: Forest Green v Barrow match thread
Just going off Twitter. Said that Barrow were down to 10 before Livesey went off because of an injury to Symington. If he's not injured, then he looks an okay squad player to have.

Re: Forest Green v Barrow match thread
Guess we will appeal against Livesey's red card, even FGR boss thinks its harsh.........
Forest Green boss Ady Pennock told BBC Radio Gloucestershire
"It was very good - another clean sheet, we have got goals in the team, so I'm very pleased with the result.
"Maybe it (the first Barrow red card) was a little bit harsh, but it's gone our way today. You know what it's like against ten men - it's very difficult - but we've done a good, professional job.
"We missed Jon (Parkin) today because he brings so much to the table, but there was no point using him for the sake of using him. We've got good back-up and strong options."

Re: Forest Green v Barrow match thread
Symington went straight to the dressing room after been attended to by physio and he signalled bench for replacement. The penalty/sending off event then occurred and so instead of ARH or Newby coming on we had to bring on Grand to strengthen defence.
FWIW thought we played with more commitment before Livesey sending off and were holding our own better than at Grimsby.
The defending for FGR second goal from free kick was dreadful no body taking control .Third goal good fast move down our right side, where they had been attacking and getting through all game,to bye line good coss into the box for easy tap in.Fourth, again bad defending by centre backs from set piece.
Referee made some bad decisions which did change the game .
As for problems with our supporters as mentioned on FGR forum we are gaining an unwanted reputation due to a minority.Supporting team is good but going onto pitch as few did after they scored second goal, even if goaded by scorer, will get club find and further scrutiny when we get to other grounds.
All in all" bad day at the office "all round

2 lads went over fencing and to side of goal then realised they we on their own and went back as stewards approached.

Some more than interesting comments and assessments of Yesterday encounter!
http://forum.fgrfc.net/viewforum.php?f=2
Came away from the game a little disappointed and embarrassed with one individuals continual verbal abuse of a FGR steward. He shall remain nameless, I did apologize on his behalf at the end of the game! I don't usually comment on what happens on the terraces but we are far better than that, END OF!!

Re: Forest Green v Barrow match thread
A couple of people were over the hoardings at the end and on the grass but don't believe they went on to the actual pitch. It certainly wasn't what you would call a pitch invasion.Van Der Nipper wrote:I didn't see anyone going on the pitch at all, fair few ran to the hoardings but that was it.
Reading the FGR forum the fans on there seem blissfully unaware of the pre match goings on from their stewards and somehow able to make enlightened judgements about the first sending off despite being 100 yards away.
The FGR fans I spoke to before the game and at the bus stop waiting for the bus back to Stroud after the game were very apologetic and embarrassed by the treatment we were given. They also agreed that the crowd was no more than about 700-800 so some interesting accounting going on there.
I think a few people got a bit agitated yesterday including myself and a couple of others I was with who are normally about as placid as you could imagine but given the circumstances it was highly surprising. When you have a steward telling a set of supporters outside the ground that they are not getting in, not giving any real reason and then when pushed for one lying about it, then it hardly sets the day off on the right foot.

Re: Forest Green v Barrow match thread
That's pretty much how I see it, I had us down for a point (against Dover) going into this Tuesday evenings game. I think most never expected us to get much, if anything from Grimsby or FGR, the trouble has been how we've given away some of the goals. Now we have the problem going into the Guiseley game (the one we should have been looking at getting maximum points from) is the disruption now caused to the team by injuries & suspensions. Not sure how the appeals system works, but if we appealed Danny's red card I guess it wouldn't be reviewed before Tuesday's game.Moribund wrote:Most people would have been reasonably content with 3 points from the first 3 games.
It's been very unlucky the way things have panned out in this first week of the season (injuries/suspensions) but not having a recognised RB now looks to have been a dangerous gamble by Edmo.
Tuesday night will now be a lot tougher but I still expect us to get three points.
We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.
