AFC Fylde v Barrow AFC - FA Cup Action.
Re: AFC Fylde v Barrow AFC - FA Cup Action.
The Barrow side were beaten by a team that played well to its limitations and wanted to win. Barrow were not a team. They were incohesive, lacked imagination and, with the exception of a few, showed little appetite for the game. It is not losing that I mind, it is the manner of losing.

Edmo looks shell shocked in that interview, think that's the first time I've seen like that!
I know he'll be trying to cover his back but honestly, accept that the sending off changed nothing about the game Edmo....we were as shit the first 45 as we were for 35 minutes in the second half.

We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.

Even the Fylde fans recognised the difference Elliott Newby made.

Easy to say now but we shouldnt have had Mellor and Cowps starting, both fairly defensive minded players from what ive seen, we should have taken the game to them in the first 10 minutes. I dont remember us having a clear chance, even after watching the highlights.

Just watched the highlights. Let's face it, the Fylde manager didn't have much preparation to do for this game. It was a similar team with the same tactics who his team beat twice less than 12 months ago. Difficult to call the Pilks challenge from the camera angle, but if he lunged in with studs raised, it just gives the referee the opportunity to dish out the red card. Seems like from then on there was only one winner. It's a shame as cup runs are special, and gives the fans something to be upbeat about, when it looks as if we'll be lulling in mid-table mediocrity for the duration of the season.

Weve got getting knocked out of the Trophy to look forward to yet.

Fylde keeper made a good save to a curling Grimes shot in second half - you must have blinkedSteeley wrote:I dont remember us having a clear chance, even after watching the highlights.

Very true, but as im a Barrow fan I only notice players when they constantly sprint around and foul people a lot, not these so called footballers who pass and shoot.Jim wrote:Fylde keeper made a good save to a curling Grimes shot in second half - you must have blinkedSteeley wrote:I dont remember us having a clear chance, even after watching the highlights.

Re: AFC Fylde v Barrow AFC - FA Cup Action.
The game was played at walking pace for Barrow almost like a training match. They seemed to have the same approach that saw us go out to Runcorn last season. Disjointed, no coordination in attack, the loss of Walker before the game showed up front. I know Cook and Wilson have hardly played together (Wilson has hardly played full stop) but there was nothing for the the forwards to get onto.
In the 1st half both sides cancelled each other out. Wilson was carried for most of the time he was on, indicating early on he needed to come off, but I don't think he was subbed off until the 30min mark. Barrow looked comfortable in defence Fylde posing very little threat, Barrow posing little threat to them as well. The difference was, from Barrow it was a good defensive display as Fylde were trying to get through, the Fylde back line had an easy game with little troubling them.
In the 2nd half things looked pretty much the same but openings were beginning happen for Fylde as they got their foot on the ball more in the midfield, with Rowe and Baker not being challenged as much as they should have been. Then Pilks got sent off. The ref was closer than me but looking at it from the same direction. Pilks clearly came off the ground and lunged with one foot. It looked like he got the ball first, but the way the Fylde player went over the top of him, I thought he would be lucky to stay on, it did look a bit aggressive and you don't know what refs at this level will do. The midfield went missing after the sending off. After that a late tackle on Cook from behind went unpunished a few yards in front of the linesman, the players complaints falling on def ears. Cook started to limp after that and another couple of challenges later he eventually had to come off.
Then came the bizarre managerial decisions. Grimes who came on for Cook, the only recognised striker we had left who has never scored (even from the penatly spot) was put on the left wing and van den Broek (the most hyped up and disappointing signing of the season) a winger/midfielder gets to go up front on his own. Was it a height thing? Then Newby comes on but replaces Haworth with Grimes staying on the left wing. When Haworth came off it became apparent that the protection that Pilks and Haworth had given the full backs was completely gone. Newby injected the only real excitement into Barrow's attack and did skin the left back a few times and put in 3-4 crosses. Sadly we had no one in the middle to get on the end of any off it. I would have thought when Cook came off that ARH should have come on with Grimes up top, Newby adding a bit of pace late on?
Pretty sure the goal was an Ashton own goal despite it being given to Dion Charles. If you watch the highlights, it is not a shot or on target when he plays it, he centres to ball and it deflects into the net off Ashton. Felt sorry for Ashton, but Barrow didn't deserve anything from the game. We seem to play like this once too often and our abysmal away form continues.
After the final whistle I laughed as the announcer said it had been a "magnificent game of football". Both teams were dire, and it took a sending off and an own goal for Fylde to win, there was little in it, but Fylde were better once we lost Pilks. They where pushing up after the sending off and profited from the extra man. Barrow left Rowe and Baker in the middle to pull the strings under little pressure, so much for the defensive set up.
Grimes, van den Broek and Wilson are all being carried and either need to shape up or ship out by January. EDIT: sooner hopefully, can't wait for the window, another couple of injuries and the odd suspension and the current 5 points from play-offs, 10 from relegation zone could be flipped on it's head.

Watched the highlights. How did we actually loose. Pilks red card was maybe reckless but the Referee DID NOT take the same action against the Fylde player late on when he DID double foot his tackle and from behind. Mind you we don't argue Fylde would argue all day just to give them an edge. ground is a disgrace anyway

Saying that would we have been a different ball number?Matty wrote:Missed out on Millwall away.
