Floodlight pylons"are" coming down, they've been condemned/not safe - to be replaced by single poles in each corner.
This was stated pre season, but there's been various delays etc etc as mentioned previously in this thread.
Where've you been - hibernating -, this is common knowledge.
Exactly.
Unless I am wrong wasn't it also stated that the new towers will be 20metres high which is approximately two thirds the height of the existing towers, and situated in line with the 18yard mark

Yes, I remember something quoted along those lines, but we'll have to wait & see what the "final designs" will look like.

Not been on for a while but needed to vent some growing frustration. I know some things take time but I'm really sick as I'm sure most are with the lack of progress at Holker Street and not just on the floodlights. Everytime something is planned or identified as 'needing doing' we then hear nothing for ages. When after weeks/months someone then questions why no news, the answer is there have been unexpected delays but without an explanation what the delay is. If you do some research into non league clubs doing developmental work on their ground, physical and visible progress always seems to be being made. Not at Barrow, all talk and no action as usual. Just look at Salford City and what is happening with their ground in a short space of time and whilst the season is still going on (so that excuse is not valid). It's embarrassing. Even if they have more money, that cannot be the only reason as that is never the reason given at Barrow for work not being started. Instead it's, "delays" or "not as simple as just putting up some lights" and "don't know if the foundations are up to putting a roof on the Holker Street end". Just a few of the excuses for nothing continuing to be done. Only Barrow AFC can make things more complicated than they need to be and it doesn't seem to matter who is in charge. Its become a bit of a joke that this is "how it's always been" and "nothing will ever change" so just accept it. Well it's about bloody time it did change. If it's not just as simple as putting up some lights, or the foundations aren't strong enough for a roof, then how about we physically start doing what IS actually needed. That is unless of course Mr Casson doesn't have any intention of doing what he promised that night at the Forum!! No mention of needing to get into the league to get the money to do what was promised just that he was a very successful business man whose company led the way in telecommunications and made millions of dollars. It's about time the talking stopped and work progressed. Another thing I heard a few weeks back was that the footprint of the ground and surrounding areas was not big enough to redevelop. If that's true, when are we going to be told that and if so what is plan B? Oh and don't get me started on the official website. My 9 year old could do a better job and at least keep it up to date. Absolute joke at this level, yet its obvious no one connected with the club seems to think there is an issue or it would have been addressed by now. Oh don't tell me, there's a delay with who was going to do it!! Come on, board let's see some of the promises made taking some physical shape.

To be fair I'm not really saying Mr Casson has no plans at all to make good what he talked about that night but what i'm struggling with is, why everything to do with Barrow AFC away from the actual team, is and always has been so bloody poorly run. Particularly now we have very successful business man at the helm. I honestly thought those days were behind us and that we would at least be showing to be on a par with most other clubs apart from maybe the Tranmere's and Lincoln's in this league in terms of organisation and showing some identifiable progress in development of the facilities, website and commercial side of things. To run a professional club and certainly in terms aspirations to get back into the F.L, there is more to it than simply putting a winning team on the pitch. We are still streets behind at not only this level but of a lot of clubs in the league below. I'm not saying it's an easy job either, but one we need to get right and a damed sight quicker than we seem to be doing it at present.

Have to say Gazza, I agree with the sentiment of your post. It has been frustrating waiting for a tangible redevelopment plan to appear and I always hope we'll hear some positive news on things soon. Redevelopment of HS or moving to new location is key to the growth of the club on and off the pitch.

I am slowly coming to the view that In order to truly redevelop the entire club, ground etc we need to move.

I know this view is sacrilege but I really can't see how Holker Street can be successfully developed.

Is there anywhere at all in terms of land, access, availability where a completely new ground could be built?

Possibly the owner is coming round to the same view, which is why he is holding back from work needed at HS apart from essentials like floodlights.

Where would the new ground go? Salthouse maybe? Out towards roose? Ormsgill playing pitches? Or further away?

Same here. Although where we'd move to I've no idea.

I disagree..

I think whoever is in charge of feasibility, costs, architects or whatever are not good enough! We own the ground an the land around, we have a usable if slightly dilapidated ground that we can build around because if we did decide to move, land purchase, planning, building imo would outstrip the cost to develop what we have! FFS...old Trafford, anfield etc etc developed..

All the talk of unsuitable ground to build on in this day and age is utter crap.. there is an abundance of solutions out there that do not cost the earth that would enable us to bloody well move forward!!

Surely its better to say flatten the hs end and use the remaining sides/end whlst work is done.. get that done, develop the stand by extending it, either knock down or at least extend the crossbar with a small but practical covered area out front and finally look at adding or developing the the wilkie stand..

You only have to look at other small clubs who have less than us and see what can be achieved, good looking, practical grounds that do not and should not cost hideous amounts of money!!

Income would increase for sure if we had a stadium that was tidy, comfortable for spectators (roofs) and travelling fans.. seriously, would you want to travel for 5 hours to stand on a roofless terrace in the cumbrian winter??

People are soft these days, parents don't want to stand in the rain paying 14/15/20 quid or whatever to have their kids or themselves be full of cold or flu...

That's my thoughts anyway..

and to add to that... what is it exactly that we want? a 20 thousand seater stadium that will be never full or a ground like chesters or r&d ground..

In terms of a ground, an 8-10k capacity ground would be more than enough, imo. However, a new build would enable you to build ancillary facilities - pitches that can be rented out; an in house gym/physiotherapy centre that could have space rented out; better hospitality facilities; better parking; the list goes on.

At the moment we're hemmed in on two sides by roads, there's a working garage in one corner of the ground, no proper parking facilities of our own and the ground isn't strong enough to support substantial redevelopment (unless someone knows better than the experts who have looked at this already). If you want a ground to last us the next 100 years, you wouldn't start from here.

Just my view.
