Puddles and a cut up pitch do not stop a game of rugby as the ball is usually passed from hand to hand not on the ground..

It is truly staggering that the amount of rain we have had overnight has caused yet another postponement. We have had almost a dry last week it really does show how poor our pitch has now become. It does seem to reflect the whole mood of the club at the moment it just is not good enough and I'm sure I reflect the opinion of many who feel disillusioned and disappointed with the state of our club at the moment.

So you must be implying if PC was still in charge the game would be on, as the ball did not see much of the ground then either.

The way some get frustrated on here it’s like ours in the only ground that ever gets games called off sometimes. Tranmere’s game also being called off shows the amount of rain we’ve been having in the North.

Others do get called off, but not the amount of games ours has this season - like Colin said, it's been pretty dry all week & a small amount of early morning rain has caused another early postponement decision. Bad pitch/too early decision.

Very sensible to rearrange for tomorrow. Saves the problem of playing at the same time as the rugby and night games under the floodlights are better anyway

Anyhow, horizontal sleet in LA6, so I'm glad I don't have to bother. Live footy and racing to keep me going, although every grass meeting in England has been abandoned (six meetings) because of a bit of rain.

Moaning perhaps - its our default setting of late but most would agree there is something wrong with that pitch now. I live a mile from the ground, we have had drizzle all morning, I have a 6m x 30m lawn which looks wet but is not letting water pool.

Given the fact it has been forecast to rain heavily and continually for around 24 hours then absolutely the right call. The levelling of the pitch must of had some detrimental effect on the drainage as the playing surface has improved but the drainage has worsened and is yet another thing that needs a serious coat of looking at in the summer.
Some you win, some you lose. I lose as on nights for the rest of the week.
Roll on Leyton Orient on Saturday, at least we have the many museums of Lodon to visit if it's rained off.

Today’s postponement reminds me of a report I read once which featured a morning inspection carried out by the match official who was a lady. The hapless journo described how the official ran about for about 15 mins in the pouring rain, doing shuttles and booting a ball about to see if it would bounce and travel properly on the soaking grass. He concluded his account by saying the game was eventually called off due to a waterlogged bitch. An unfortunate but easily made typo with the letters ‘p’ and ‘b’ being right next to each other on a keyboard.

Pleased with early decision, saving the need to travel and - subject to league approval - attempting to play tomorrow, leaving Wednesday as a back-up possibility.

As for not being like the 70s/80s/90s, you've got to agree; there's grass on the Holker Street pitch in April, no rampant inflation, no IMF intervention, no piles of rubbish on the streets, no striking miners (not I'm suggesting that was official SYP policy). Still, for those hankering after some of those things, I guess there's always hope... (If that's not an oxymoron.)
