Good point. Sadly people will get used to football on TV all the time. Every prem game on this month I think. Then there will be plenty arguing for that to continue for the whole season.200miles wrote: ↑Thu Sep 10, 2020 12:26 pm Younger people will always act more casually and why shouldn't they? It's their time of life that is being "stolen" from them. In the second wave of Hong Kong flu in the 1960's , 80,000 people died of it in the UK, when the population was significantly lower than it is now. No lockdown, the disease faded and vaccines were developed years later. Covid seems little different if not less fatal and the age distribution for deaths in the flu was a bit worse for those under 50.
Additionally the sport is losing so many future fans who are not being exposed to the live game any longer.

There will be no football this season apart from behind closed doors. Just listened to a BMA spokesman describing that measures to be imposed this winter will makes this inevitable. I'm definitely NOT onboard, nor are millions of others. I think we'll see a law and order breakdown. Krankie in Scotland is ordering, on pain of arrest, that people in pubs and restaurants must wear face coverings except when sitting down. It's unsustainable madness.

What is the end game with this? Unless there is a vaccine it's not going anywhere like other viruses, surely hospital admissions and deaths should be the guide to judge by? These over the top measures and hysteria are complete baffling for a virus which for 3 months now has showed you have more chance of dying from normal flu, yet we are threatened with arrest for going for a pint and cant stand outside watching football, yet my kids can go to a school with over a thousand pupils, madness

The yanks are cranking onto 200 000 deaths , confusing that people seem to think this go for it approach that will cause so much death and suffering is a great idea for a disease in its peak that was killing nearly 1000 people a day is alarmingPaulmichael wrote: ↑Thu Sep 10, 2020 2:00 pm What is the end game with this? Re: Fans Returning to Stadiums
Until these trial events have taken place I cant see it you ve got parts of the country in local lockdowns , down to 6 person meet ups a 1000 people in a ground is a hell of a risk the way i see it. Would it not cost more than the profit made by a 1000 in to put control measures ect into the ground?Van Der Nipper wrote: ↑Thu Sep 10, 2020 10:42 amThat just simply won't happen,we'll be back in October all being well with crowds capped at 1,000PerthBluebird wrote: ↑Thu Sep 10, 2020 10:24 am I think we need to brace and prepare for a season behind closed doors the way this is going currently.

The USA has six times the population of the UK. A death equivalence would be 33,000.

Talking about the US as one single approach is ridiculous. Each state has its own policy with vastly varying outcomes.PerthBluebird wrote: ↑Thu Sep 10, 2020 2:42 pmThe yanks are cranking onto 200 000 deaths , confusing that people seem to think this go for it approach that will cause so much death and suffering is a great idea for a disease in its peak that was killing nearly 1000 people a day is alarmingPaulmichael wrote: ↑Thu Sep 10, 2020 2:00 pm What is the end game with this? Re: Fans Returning to Stadiums
Can I politely put you right about your comparison of Covid 19 to flu.... Firstly there are lots of flu's but compared with the seasonal flu and flu mutations of the last ten years you are between two and three times more likely to catch Covid 19 when no social distancing measures are adhered to and between three to five times more likely to die from Covid 19. Another thing to bear in mind is that flu rarely has any lasting effects post illness where with Covid 19 data, although too early to give numbers, is showing more and more people with long lasting or lifelong organ damage requiring long term interventions or treatments like dialysis.Paulmichael wrote: ↑Thu Sep 10, 2020 2:00 pm What is the end game with this? Re: Fans Returning to Stadiums
Evidence was presented earlier this week that after three months the longer term effects in a few people have been diminshing. I also listened to an expert from Sweden this morning where near-freedom exists yet infection rate remains at less than 1.5%. An exponentially rising death rate coming here as other untreated and undiagnosed non-Covid conditions hit home, both physical and mental. I read widely on the issue....good and bad. My opinion is quite firm that the UK is making a big mistake in not opening up more to permit herd immunity to be brought about within the most active part of the population. The underlying reasons that we used to enjoy life here will be seriously compromised and we will all suffer the consequences down the line.

There are many many people out there who are now of this opinion, but what about the “dont kill your Granny” affect this could have. There’s no easy way with this.200miles wrote: ↑Thu Sep 10, 2020 3:14 pm My opinion is quite firm that the UK is making a big mistake in not opening up more to permit herd immunity to be brought about within the most active part of the population. Re: Fans Returning to Stadiums
Despite suspicions, there is absolutely no reliable evidence that herd immunity is a viable consideration. No scientist in the whole world (9 months plus into the problem) has said that a person can not be infected with Covid more than once. To emphasise the point, if colds and flu are relevant comparisons, we all know that we can can catch/get those afflictions more than once.200miles wrote: ↑Thu Sep 10, 2020 3:14 pm Evidence was presented earlier this week that after three months the longer term effects in a few people have been diminshing.
