I thought it was £50k for Rooney. Again the identification of his agent now makes more sense in terms of his leaving.

If Rooney continues to have another good season it'll be interesting to see whether Bolton will try and take him when their embargo ends. He is on a three year contract so may not be that attractive as an acquisition especially if Stockport end up promoted. Stockport have decent investment behind them now and Rooney wouldn't be cheap, though we do know that Bolton dont mind putting their hands in their pockets if they feel the need.

I watched an interview with Rooney recently where he said something along the lines of he 'wanted to go through the leagues' with Stockport. Could be meaningless of course but sounds like he's commited to them.

More committed than he was to Barrow if he wants to go through the leagues with Stockport.
We were told he did not want to play in the EFL, that's why he left our club.

I think the title of the thread is the reason for the discussion.

What Rooney says is of little interest. Though I would say that he is a bit like Andy Cook in that he doesn't seem to look back with much fondness on any of his clubs. We tend to get a little less appreciative when a player that has contributed to your success leaves without much in the way of positive vibes. In reality that's the way it usually is once you get under the candy floss words.

It is 95% certain that the reasons for Rooneys departure were in the main financial and had nothing to do with his hitherto undisclosed love of Stockport. The issue is what influences he was subject to in coming to the conclusions he did and that brings us back to this thread.
