Absolutely no excuse but biggins has a special talent for doing so! Commentator talks like we have a James ward prowse on freekicksArvo wrote: ↑Mon Jan 18, 2021 1:53 amNo, but there's no excuse for putting it into the wall every time.Craigthered wrote: ↑Sun Jan 17, 2021 11:13 pm Guy seems to think there's no excuse for not scoring every 30 yard free kick!

Re: The Commentators
Far too critical about Barrows players are both of them.

Re: The Commentators
John Goodwin giving his big speech on how to defend because he played top amateur level. Guy knows [SwearFilter] all
Re: The Commentators
I've been critical of John Goodwin's "What he should have done there was..." and "What a good player would have done was..." in the past, but in fairness I think he's cut back on that type of comment. I try and listen to the opposition's commentary now (not because of any particular dislike of Adam and John I should say, but because I started getting superstitious... in the days before iFollow whenever I listened to the Radio Cumbria commentary, we lost!) and it's noticeable that their summarisers are able to do so without this type of negativity. I thought the commentator and summariser at Southend were good, knowledgeable about Barrow and perceptive about the pattern of the match itself.

I thought the pair at Southend we're very patronising towards us,constantly referring to our budget issuesArvo wrote: ↑Mon Jan 18, 2021 11:11 am I've been critical of John Goodwin's "What he should have done there was..." and "What a good player would have done was..." in the past, but in fairness I think he's cut back on that type of comment. Re: The Commentators
I agree that the BBC Essex pair had done their homework on the visitors and commented fairly on both sides. Important to do when the home commentary is being used on iFollow for those signing up as away fans.

Re: The Commentators
Barrow commentary team doing a great job.. Keep it up!
Re: The Commentators
James Phillips' bizarre 10-minute moan about Bielsa at half-time tells you just how much he knows about football. Though I gather he's a Derby fan, so presumably he's still bitter.

Re: The Commentators
Really like our commentary team tbh. My only pedantic issue is AJ constantly saying the phrase “back forward”, in contexts such as “Platt plays it back forward”. I can say without exaggeration he says it 25-30 times every game, and once you notice it you can’t unnotice it.

Re: The Commentators
Perhaps you should be saying, playing back to front, Adam
Re: The Commentators
Its bloody obvious hes not a passionate Blackburn fan what a stupid comment. You wouldnt think we supported the same team on this forummall wrote: ↑Sun Jan 17, 2021 7:13 pm"I have to say that back in the day it was Andy Wood who bugged me; of course it was sound only then and there were several occasions when Barrow scored that his voice was so flat and passionless that when he said we had scored I assumed he was about to add that the flag had gone up and it had been ruled out, such was the lack of life in his voice. If listening only, without the benefit of pictures, there is never any danger with Adam of not being instantly aware that we have scored!".pjdaly wrote: ↑Sun Jan 17, 2021 2:12 pm
That for me is the key point - - - sometimes the criticism can be borne of wanting the team to do well so John Goodwin is fine as far as I'm concerned. We all know Adam is totally behind the club and the team but I certainly don't sense any anti-Barrow agenda from John Goodwin. Yes, there's a need to try and get the balance right but I can't say I've found JG too much to bear when it comes to offering criticism. And to redress the balance, I was pleased yesterday that he picked out Connor Brown for a special mention as one of our players of the season, given that Brown was replaced by the new guy (who played well) despite doing well himself in most games this season. To me, that was John Goodwin offering much merited praise for a player sidelined for yesterday's game. Well done for not forgetting Brown's contribution.
I think we also have to be able to laugh at ourselves a bit (if you can't do that it's very hard being a Barrow fan year after year after year). Some might not have liked it but that bit when he followed up the remark that both teams were playing chess, moving around and cagily waiting for a space to open up, by adding "the trouble is our pieces don't know where to go" was wickedly amusing and broke a bit of tension for me.
I have to say that back in the day it was Andy Wood who bugged me; of course it was sound only then and there were several occasions when Barrow scored that his voice was so flat and passionless that when he said we had scored I assumed he was about to add that the flag had gone up and it had been ruled out, such was the lack of life in his voice. Why?.=Because Wood was/is a passionate Carlisle fan. Adam is a passionate Blackburn fan!.
