If Stockport had gone up presumably he would have had to look for another club so his abject display yesterday contributed to a succesful outcome on his personal part.Bingo wrote: ↑Mon Jun 14, 2021 9:40 amWe have been told we had a higher budget than our league positions suggests, so why should we not be able to afford to sign players from a league below us.. why this obsession with Rooney he didn't want to stay he left why all of sudden would he want to return.russell_anderson wrote: ↑Sun Jun 13, 2021 7:53 pm There's a few who have stood out in the playoffs but I'd be amazed if we could afford any of them. Re: Potential signings
As I said in my post, there is no way he would return as he left because he was given a better offer. My point was that there are plenty of good players around the NL. Rooney, as the NL player of the season for the second year in row while scoring 21 goals and having 9 assists is obviously one of them according to everybody except some people of this board who clearly no absolutely nothing about football. I've mentioned several others but all of them would be out of our financial range.Bingo wrote: ↑Mon Jun 14, 2021 9:40 amWe have been told we had a higher budget than our league positions suggests, so why should we not be able to afford to sign players from a league below us.. why this obsession with Rooney he didn't want to stay he left why all of sudden would he want to return.russell_anderson wrote: ↑Sun Jun 13, 2021 7:53 pm There's a few who have stood out in the playoffs but I'd be amazed if we could afford any of them. Re: Potential signings
Wasn't even Stockport's POTY. Too many armchair experts just look at goals and make decisions without actually seeing him play. Those who actually watch County decided Croasdale was better.russell_anderson wrote: ↑Mon Jun 14, 2021 10:29 am As I said in my post, there is no way he would return as he left because he was given a better offer. Re: Potential signings
Chosen by a panel selected from football's governing bodies, the media and fans. Obviously, they all no nothing compared to the unbiased assessment of people who base their opinions on whether a player is in their team or is not. Incidentally, Croasdale is also a very good player who, apparently, was also on his way to Barrow until Stockport stepped in with a bigger offer. However, that doesn't detract from Rooney at all.RedWeb wrote: ↑Mon Jun 14, 2021 10:48 amWasn't even Stockport's POTY. Re: Potential signings
Rooney is a proven NL player. However he's rolling on towards 31 and that ship has sailed for Barrow. Could honestly see Rooney dropping to NLN if the money was right.

Re: Potential signings
I really don't know how many times I have to say this! I'm not disputing the fact that Rooney is history. What I am disputing is that for some reason after leaving Barrow, he's becaome a poor player. He was, and still is, one of the best if not the best players in the National League and although at 31 he will be on a downward trend judging by his stats for this season that hasn't started yet. As a football fan, I appreciate good players whether they play for Barrow or anybody else.
Re: Potential signings
If its going to be the case where we can never be able to actually pay a good fee for a quality player then whats the point in upgrading the ground in terms of new stands etc.
Sooner or later we are going to have to spend if we want to improve ourselves in the EFL imo.

Don't know much about this lad apart from the above and the fact he had a good spell at Borehamwood before returning to the EFL but I note he has been released from his contract by Salford. With their hair-trigger revolving door policy it would be difficult to ascertain the reasons behind this.

Re: Potential signings
The point is that we have to upgrade the ground to comply with EFL regulations. No one is saying we will never pay a fee for a player but it's a case of priorities I should imagine.Reginald wrote: ↑Mon Jun 14, 2021 11:24 am If its going to be the case where we can never be able to actually pay a good fee for a quality player then whats the point in upgrading the ground in terms of new stands etc.

Re: Potential signings
A lot is being made about John Rooney leaving Barrow for more money and not wanting to play in the football league.
I'm not sure those were the reasons he left the club.
Barrow made Rooney an offer the same as Stockport had offered.
My understanding was that Rooney left Barrow because of his wife working shifts that meant he had to look after the children.
He seemed to miss a few midweek matches for Stockport.

Re: Potential signings
That was exactly the reason he left. His wife is a nurse working shifts and being away every Friday night was becoming problematic. Stockport on his doorstep no overnight aways days for home games unlike when Barrow play at home when the squad spend Friday nights at The Dunes.saltcellar wrote: ↑Mon Jun 14, 2021 12:35 pm A lot is being made about John Rooney leaving Barrow for more money and not wanting to play in the football league.

Re: Potential signings
Which is fair enough. However, I'd imagine it sort of boils down to the same thing i.e. in the EFL you would be expected to have overnights - some clubs even do it for home games when there is no distance to travel. If Rooney couldn't commit to that he's better in the NL. That said even Barrow had overnights in the south as the NL has a lot of travel. Whatever, good luck to him at Stockport or wherever. Barrow has moved on.saltcellar wrote: ↑Mon Jun 14, 2021 12:35 pm A lot is being made about John Rooney leaving Barrow for more money and not wanting to play in the football league.

Re: Potential signings
I prefer the way the club are doing things atm, You have to modernise the ground anyway to comply with L2 rules & due to COVID there’s a surplus of players due to cost cutting measures, So most L2 clubs will use the loan system this season.Reginald wrote: ↑Mon Jun 14, 2021 11:24 am If its going to be the case where we can never be able to actually pay a good fee for a quality player then whats the point in upgrading the ground in terms of new stands etc.

Re: Potential signings
