Totally agree with the above, just needs a day to day handyman for many tasks and a bit of common sense and planning from the club. It would also allow the GMV to concentrate on specific tasks utilising their trade knowledge.capman wrote: ↑Sun Sep 12, 2021 1:07 pm The Club should employ a part-time handyman say to work 3 days a week and in the job description it would be to clean up after match days as well as doing any small jobs around the ground. The ground is not getting all the day to day jobs done and until the club come up with a proper plan they never will get things done that should get done

Well no extra help turned up which was rather frustrating…and disappointing but three people beyond retirement age did end up litter picking the whole ground. This definitely isn’t the right way to go and it’s a shame we couldn’t have interested a few extra pairs of hands today.
The Steelworks End pitch perimeter wall was the next area in the painters sights today, signs down and a good chunk scraped & painted.

After reading about both disabled areas being taken up by some supporters and blocking the views of the people using the shelters we decided to put a temporary fix in place with some chain. This of course won’t stop people intent on using the spaces but hopefully it’ll highlight the areas that need to be kept clear….having said that, the yellow “keep clear” hatching painted on the floor didn’t stop them….!
We also took down some club signage that had been duct taped up and put them in frames, just little things but it it helps give a better appearance.
Elaine once again kept us topped up with teas & coffees, while freshly baked sausage rolls and sandwiches were supplied by Marion.

Its one for the club to address Ian. The club should be taking note and cant surely expect a small band of volunteers to pretty much do this.spirit of 1990 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 12, 2021 3:36 pm Well no extra help turned up which was rather frustrating but three people beyond retirement age did end up litter picking the whole ground. If the club did employ a handyman he’d need to look not in a bin for litter but at places like this…this is the HSE and behind one of the flags.
The bin is a few feet away.

It’s clearly a gap in resources that the club need to look at. The very fact we have absolutely no post match stadium clean up team in place aside from a willing band of volunteers and we are dealing with 2000+ crowds now. It needs addressing.

Firstly I cannot recall going to the ground and it not being cleared of litter over the years and I very much doubt it was done by any paid employees if we had any.
The late Jim Elliot was a volunteer as far as I know then Phizzer did it along with many other odd jobs and then I took over 10 years ago.
I was there every day doing the cleaning inside the crossbar building and outside in the ground.
The two other people there everyday being Les kit man doing the washing and the paid employee Suzanne doing the admin and she was also the bar manager.
As for today I must say I do enjoy litter picking and it was a change to get out of the kitchen.
Considering the number of people in attendance the litter to be picked up was a pleasant surprise. I have picked up much much more in our non league days with far less fans. The stand was done in no time and I diverted back to the kitchen and the other two hardly souls carried on.
As the photo shows you will get those who dispose of their rubbish in the most inappropriate places but they are the exception.
So well done to the majority who took responsibility for their rubbish. It was appreciated.

Has probation or youth service been approached about supporting the process. Theres a lot of people who make a wrong choice who have skills that could be utilised or be taught new skills by those in attendance.

I take your point but my experience is that most of them in this position do very little work, stretching out the hours for as long as they can.
However if they have the right attitude, they could learn and the club could benefit.

I thought we had one, there's always a chap running around doing things with wires and cables, seen him working the bar and fixing things as well. Bit of an odd job man. Must be a volunteercapman wrote: ↑Sun Sep 12, 2021 1:07 pm The Club should employ a part-time handyman say to work 3 days a week and in the job description it would be to clean up after much days as well and do enery small jobs up to a certain amount as well the ground is not getting the job done until the club come up with a proper planet never will things get done that shouldn’t get done
