A mortgage situation where the clubs OWN the stadium so therefore take all profits then fair play but not renting so that the council get their grip of the pie

I agree with Adam on this.Unless you have full control of your own stadium you are subject to the vagaries of whichever council is in charge and Barrow Council does not have a great track record of good management as the state of Barrow is evidence of their mismanagement over the years.
If we are to have a multi use stadium how would you protect the pitch from over use?Granted Barrow AFC could do with better facilities,but they need to control the use of them if they were to be made the tenants of any such facility.

A lot of hoops to jump through before a shared stadium becomes reality. However if it was funded and left the clubs with no debt and allows for profits on food, ale etc to go back to the clubs then it would be madness to turn it down. I just don’t see it happening but something needs to be done as CP & HS require huge investments to become anywhere near what could be described as having modern facilities.

Yorks stadium is definitely a model the football and rugby should look at. Like Adam said you don’t sell your house to live in a council house. Having a bigger stadium that can attract regular people through the week with a bowling alley and arcade, gym etc like York will pay for itself. Even having a decent sports bar like at fylde. You just need to be close enough for people to want to go and support it.

The last thing you want though is the council to build it and to reap all the reward

Without going all ‘Evening Mail readers comments’ - can Barrow sustain a bowling alley? The fact that there isn’t one there now suggests not.

I’m not 100% against moving from Holker St but moving into a council stadium with bowling alleys that’d be empty after 6 months doesn’t float my boat.

Where’s the university campus going to go? That might be a better thing to buddy up with if it can be accommodated on the same footprint. Build accommodation on site…the bar can be a student union through the week…gym facilities…somewhere to base the eSports team we were going to get etc

Just a personal view:

Maybe it's just me, but aside from Valley Parade, I can't say there's been a ground I would rather watch football I've been to. Colchesters is the worst example of newbuild I have ever seen, and I've been to Falkirk's.

All for College tie ups, shared training facilities if it would work, Academies even some joint marketing maybe but not the same ground. Let's get on with making ours better.

I'm unsure in all honesty. Barrow, or the Furness area, needs something for people to do. I went to jump rush in morecambe the other week and it was packed, I saw loads of people I knew lived round here in there as well. From a personal perspective the area needs something for families to do along the lines of Bowling, crazy golf/pool, trampoline park, arcade etc and having a purpose built stadium for the football and incorporating something for people to do of a night time/ weekend would make it more attractive. If there's talks of a uni campus being put in barrow your not going to attract people to come with a few shit nightclubs and a bunch empty shops on a high street.

University buildings are going down the. Docks over. Barrow Island which is a stupid place to put it there’s nothing down there for students to do loads of empty buildings in town that the council could’ve bought and used to get the footfall up in the town centre people go on about York Stadium it’s crap it’s got multicoloured seats by all accounts it cost a lot to watch them as Others have said we don’t have a mortgage at the min so I give up some of that you’re not paying for to go somewhere where you have to pay more yes it still needs a lot of work but but I for one am totally against joining with the rugby and going in with the council i’ve never done anything for sport in this town So I wouldn’t trust them as far as I could throw him

The new Barrow University of Cumbria campus is now beyond the feasibility stage and a site has been earmarked and final plans going through final checks etc. I think it’s too late in the time line for any possible football club hybrid development.

The campus itself is missioned with assisting the skills shortage in the south of the Cumbria pro dominantly recruiting locally (to reduce travel to Carlisle and Lancaster campuses) and I cannot envision many coming directly to the town to study like other University towns and cities.

Sadly, I cannot see a massive influx of students and new halls of residences etc being developed which is unfortunate but as capman said there wouldn’t be much to accommodate them at moment anyway.

Would love a bowling alley as we currently need to go to Morecambe. That is surviving because it also has an Italian restaurant attached so perhaps that is the key.
