Re: Club Statement - Phil Brown
Covid did for Chris Beech at Carlisle good and proper, but he did seem a bit 'other worldly' in his RC interviews. Need someone a bit more 'grounded' I think.
We will foller the soccer, over land and sea...

Listening to his post match interviews driving home from games made me want to rip the car stereo out and chuck it out the window!!Wintergreen wrote: ↑Sun May 15, 2022 2:10 pmCovid did for Chris Beech at Carlisle good and proper, but he did seem a bit 'other worldly' in his RC interviews. Seems Brown wanted a three year deal that the club if relegated could not afford.

But surely all the terms were agreed if the contract was "with the lawyers now"?32mile_cul-de-sac wrote: ↑Wed May 18, 2022 1:52 pm Seems Brown wanted a three year deal that the club if relegated could not afford.

The terms probably were all agreed though clearly not signed. Therefore, it is reasonable to assume that a party to the planned agreement subsequently wanted/asked for/demanded a change that the other party found to be unreasonable, hence the 'breakdown'.Moribund wrote: ↑Wed May 18, 2022 2:06 pmBut surely all the terms were agreed if the contract was "with the lawyers now"?32mile_cul-de-sac wrote: ↑Wed May 18, 2022 1:52 pm Seems Brown wanted a three year deal that the club if relegated could not afford.

Find it hard to believe that after weeks of back and forth they came to an agreement, only for Brown to demand a longer contract once they'd verbally agreed.Cubbins Paratrooper wrote: ↑Wed May 18, 2022 3:02 pmThe terms probably were all agreed though clearly not signed. Re: Club Statement - Phil Brown
So if true it would suggest the likely objectives to the contract terms was BAFC.
Having gone through a similar experience with Cooper it still surprises me that they would entertain another three year contract. Suggests that either the BoD were not aware of the potential ramifications from the start -which I doubt. Or that talk of contracts being at an advanced stage were pretty premature.

I wouldn't know, Moribund. Two parties were directly involved in a proposed arrangement. Based on the announcements made, it would seem probable that one of them later requested a change that the other was not prepared to agree to. We move on.Moribund wrote: ↑Wed May 18, 2022 3:25 pmFind it hard to believe that after weeks of back and forth they came to an agreement, only for Brown to demand a longer contract once they'd verbally agreed.Cubbins Paratrooper wrote: ↑Wed May 18, 2022 3:02 pm

Re: Club Statement - Phil Brown
So in a commercial contract process what tends to happen is that one party ( most likely BAFC in this case) would have a standard form of contract that it would use and amend into an initial draft. This would be passed to the third party solicitor who would then discuss with their client and submit amendments, revisions and additions. This back and forth process would continue with the aim of reaching points of consensus. It is not unusual for there to be several drafts.Cubbins Paratrooper wrote: ↑Wed May 18, 2022 4:01 pmI wouldn't know, Moribund. Two parties were directly involved in a proposed arrangement. What is unusual is for a fundamental factor such as contract term to be left until the end of the process to resolve. If there was an objection on contract length from the outset, the negotiation probably would not proceed.
Hence the likelihood that in this case either negotiations had not proceeded to an advanced stage at all or they had and then one party changed their mind thus blowing the whole thing out of the water.
Re: Club Statement - Phil Brown
I think what is puzzling anyone who heard Phil Hornby's RC interview is his unequivocal statement that terms had been agreed, and the implication that contracts were with the lawyers just for final checking. He could certainly have given a less definite answer, but chose not to. Anyway, its irrelevant now and we can only hope things are sorted sooner rather than later.
Re: Club Statement - Phil Brown
That's exactly what he does wherever he applies for a job. Once in post he goes on to demand more and more money for crap players. No doubt another agent involved somewhere too!
Mate of mine at Preston said to me "you've dodged a bullet there."
