Then it started raining. I did 4 hours and the guy was still at it when I left.
I couldn't do the fanzone but will go down tomorrow and do it if it has been missed.
The lads give 20% of their share to the hospice apparently which is a nice gesture.
Could have just done with a cup of tea though.
Looked like everyone had a good time anyway.

Big Al another of the GMV's had already cleared the litter from outside the ground down as far as the garage on HS so everything was looking pristine as I walked down and thought nothing to do by the looks of things until I squinted through the gap in the double doors and saw the pitch and thought oh

Why couldn't the pitch have been covered with some "snap together" plastic flooring, just like what they tend to use at most gigs at sports stadiums, would have protected the grass & made the clear up a whole lot easier - rubbish could then have just been swept up. Just a thought that's all.Bombadel wrote: ↑Sat May 21, 2022 10:03 pm Just got back from the pitch up, Oasis cover band were great, (loads of Barra chants as well from singer Paul Byrnes, getting the crowd going) fanzone was heaving all day, and a great event for the town with not much to do around here, but pitch looks a bit worse for wear, trodden in chips in the grass (seagulls will have their work cut out) smashed plastic, smashed glass outside on the street, must be getting old but BBCC and DGs aren’t really our cup of tea. Hope the club made a decent amount from it and the pitch doesn’t need a full re-lay. Met a Bradford fan there with his mates, thinks they’ll defo go up next year, he didn’t rate Canavan at all

Whats the point in paying money to protect a pitch that will be ripped up in the coming weeks

Probably a cost issue as these are 3 lads just starting the business and I suppose trying to keep.the costs down.
I doubt the event would have gone ahead if the pitch wasn't being worked on.
That man was a hero with what he tackled. The price of being a good dad.

The club have asked us to upgrade the new extended home changing rooms to a similar standard as the ones we did quite a few years back now. This is how it looks at the moment (I’ll add what it’s like now and what it’ll look like next post)
This is where we’re after a little help, if anyone can paint to a reasonable DIY standard and could pop down on Sunday to give us a few hours of their time it would be greatly appreciated. Time is quite tight and we already have three or four of the regulars on holiday so we’re up against it really. We aren’t asking for you to become a regular (although that would be good..
) but we could just do with some assistance to help us and the club out.
If you can help us out could you either reply on here, PM, text or e-mail one of us.
We do have a lot of jobs on the go this summer so it’s important we get all the help we can get to allow us to complete what we’ve been asked to do.

Although a great turn out by a lot of the more regular volunteers (about a dozen) a disappointing one regarding new faces….with not one person taking up the request for help despite asking on here and by e-mail to people who have helped out in the past. With that in mind we’ll have to let the club know we won’t be taking on a lot of the jobs they’ve asked us to do over the summer, we hate to have to do that as this will now be something the club will have to pay someone to do but there’s no point in hoping things change - and then they don’t.
Anyway, for what it’s worth, here’s what we & the club considered to be one of the priorities for us to complete asap.
These are of the start of the upgrade of the home changing room extension - which once again those fantastic people at the NSC have offered to contribute towards, which is another great gesture as we don’t receive any sort of funding towards these projects.
The work has started on the new cubicles and we are now fitting new sockets, a big white board, new fixings for the wall mounted TV, club badges above the individual cubicles and re-routing some electrical cables and light switch so the lights can be actually switched on in the toilets rather than switching them on in the physio room, which was a bit of an oversight last summer when that work was done.
We’ll also be adding some new trunking to the existing one in the physio room so they’ll have a socket closer to the fridge they use in there rather than just having an extension cable draped down the wall & over the floor.
The ground was once again cleaned of any rubbish that had found its way in over the summer & the exterior HSE was was given a touch up where the paint was starting to flake off.
Once again many thanks to Marion who as usual made us fresh sandwiches & sausage rolls.

Not that I like sticking up for the electrical ladies, but it’s not the finished job yet Mike. Having said that - we will revisit it upon completion to make sure it passes our QC inspectormickmike wilson wrote: ↑Mon Jun 13, 2022 1:47 pm Whoever put that leccy conduit in on the 2nd last photo is 1000% non OCD![]()

Great work as ever folks - without being too much of a nosy parker - can I ask what jobs the club will now have to do themselves because of lack of numbers ?

A lot, some perhaps not as important as others, others that supporters won’t ever see, sometimes something will have been done that’s right in front of you but you’d probably not notice it, but it was a big list.
When it’s like that it works well where we can let whoever has been working on one area to have a few extra helpers, that way someone can take charge and we can cover lots of jobs at once.
To answer your question, we will definitely have to say no to the away directors toilet upgrade which has been asked for since last season. Cosmetic work inside the fanzone building itself. Possibly knock back the work in the ticket office, some doors that need fixing, painting the outside of the porta-loo block, dismantling, moving and reassembling the refreshment hut behind the Ray Wilkie stand, even the flag pole that we never seem to get time to do…it goes on, not all big projects (apart from the toilet re-furb) but all jobs that take time.
Last Sunday there were about twelve volunteers there, two electricians on the re-wiring, one lad doing all the drilling and cable pulling for them, another leccy sorting the lighting in the changing room toilets, two lads litter picking and general tidying, five painting the exterior HSE wall, one measuring up & sorting materials to alter the dugout layout to meet new EFL regs.
We’ll be there Saturday this week (Fathers day on Sunday) so we’ll see how it goes, if we can’t get a bit of extra help then we’ll be giving the club the list back with what we feel we can, or can’t do.
We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.
