Putting himself in the shop window, mentions that we still have an air of non league about us and in some aspects we still do if we are honest about ourselves.But we are a league club again, yes we are still trying to prove our worth and hopefully we have a new manager who will help us do just that.

Drivel from Brown. Rubbishing Barrow as a club saying we have a NL mentality, then in that jingoistic style trying to ingratiate himself to Halifax as a club and as a town. Heard that before haven’t we? OK he kept us up by winning two games only. He’s transparent - bullshit banana and we are well rid.

Brown was poor. We stayed up due to other results. To take our clubs money for a crap job says a lot about him. Then after taking the pay check he is disrespectful to the club which is ourselves too.

He may have won 2 games and drawn one but the reality is the drawn game was enough to keep us up on goal difference anyway. As bad as he was, 37 of the 38 points actually needed to stay up were gained by Cooper and if Oldham had lost their last game we’d have still stayed up without gaining a single point with Brown in charge. His agenda is becoming clear based on that newspaper interview. Verbally adhere yourself to the place wherever the next job may be in the hope they will fall for the sentiment and then probably give it the ‘I need more money’ to be successful line once given a 3 yr contract. Then when the club cannot keep up with the requests, blame them for having no ambition and walk away with your money and then move on again.

I don't think the "air of NL" quote is worth getting offended about. The ground is NL and after 48 years in NL the club is still finding its feet. However, we seem to be going in the right direction with the Sporting Director role allied to the appointment of Pete Wild. Just need to keep things moving off the field and get the ground up to scratch. Brown is a gobshite but so are 99.9% of most football managers.

Don’t be too hard on Phil. The article in the Courier is absolutely typical of the man and contains so many of his well trodden habits: friendly tone, gives you his world view, convinces you that his thoughts are those of the club, bigs up his target club whilst gently dissing his previous one and it’s previous manager. Whilst meaning no offence of course.

Very persuasive. Except his stats don’t really reflect that version of the truth. I think that most of us have come to the conclusion that Phil is a bit of a con man, though nice with it. He also has a very unhelpful habit of electing himself the spokesperson for a clubs political and admin agenda. This is what usually triggers his demise even before any football shortcomings.

My concern has always been that the club went to serious lengths to retain him in the first place. If Halifax both lose their manager and gain Phil Brown on a long contract, it will have been a very bad week. Should say of course that there was no evidence from the article that anybody from the club had actually contacted him and that the interview was not invented by Phil himself.

Great post. The guy is very much a con man IMO. I was never convinced he was right for us long term.One of his first interviews after joining us he mentioned his time at Southend and actually said "I don't like the National League"Now he is bigging up a club who he would like to manage in the national league. We dodged a bullett big time IMO.

We should stop discussing Brown and move on. To my mind, he saved us from relegation by seeing where the team format and tactics needed to be re-jigged, which earned us 7 points that I don't think we would have gained under Cooper. It is all very well saying we were saved by Oldham, but who knows how Oldham's results might have played out if they had been witihin a point or two of us in the run in instead of (probably) feeling it was a lost cause.

Brown may not be everyone's cup of tea, but he deserves our thanks for turning things round in his short tenure and we should leave it at that.
