Extra Seating to be EFL compliant

Ideally love to see extra 500 seats either side of existing main stand with the East terrace for away fans.
Stories of 350 seats at steelworks end and temp stand on East terrace.
So a few questions

What are we planning?
Timescale?
What are the EFL expecting?
Who is main contractor?
When will planning application go in?
When will work start?

Looking likely we will be in the EFL in 2023 so we should all have this in hand.

IIRC in an interview with Paul Hornby on Radio Cumbria £850k is being spent on this. 50% in way of a grant match funded by the club, Seats in the cross bar end around 250 the rest in the away end to give us the required 2000 seats. Cross bar end work to be done during this season the rest in the close season. With regards to planning permission would any be required? I don’t recall any plans being submitted for the 120 seats currently in the away end.

Time and cost is the driver here so i will hazard a guess at it being a temporary 500 seat structure in the corner of the HSE that will increase away allocation to around 8-900. The other 500 ready to install two / three row deep at the Crossbar end either side of the tunnel. That won’t be so bad if they can run a roof under the crossbar windows and above the tunnel entrance to keep it as one continuous roof. to At least it will give us a four sided ground back and as that area is currently out of use they could start now during the season.
One issue by placing a structure at the side of the main stand would be making sure that spectators can see the full pitch and not obscured by the end of the Main stand - so it would have to be a similar rake.

Why go to the expense of putting a roof on the seats in the cross bar end.? We rarely fill the seats we have now in the main stand so they would rarely be used anyway. Plenty of clubs have uncovered searing. Stockport, Gillingham and Swindon spring to mind

Well why put a roof on the HSE? These things get done to enhance fan experience and improve the ground to match club ambitions. That end is going nowhere so let’s do it the best we can. A roof on there with 500 seats end to end and a new perimeter wall and I think would make it a popular stand (family stand?) and improve that end enormously. I don’t think it would be overly expensive to do and surely they could do it without pillars / obstructed views.

Stadium Solutions provide pre-constructed bolt together modular units. Flatten the small terrace steps at the Steelworks end and slot them in. Surely that would be the most cost effective and quickest way to sort that end out.

Agree that the silence is pretty deafening though - all we've really heard is the reason over the summer that the Commonwealth Games took the materials or whatever it was. But at the end of the day the clock is ticking - I can't help but think it's just one reason after another that this work hasn't yet been done. Granted Sutton had plenty of room to work with but they increased their away capacity to over 1,200 over the summer by constructing a new terrace - their stint in the EFL has been 12 months shorter than ours (that's where COVID comes in from our perspective). Quite frankly its tiresome reading about our away end from opposition supporters and it's got to the point where you can't make any defence for it.

Now that is a sensible suggestion Al.
The club are aware of their obligations and time limits without reading a fans forum.
However ideas and suggestions should always be considered as some could possibly work. A working party of ideas could be set up for consideration maybe.
Thanks for setting up its own thread as it draws attention more than the general GMV one which is just an information thread on work carried out.

The longer this drags on the more expensive its going to be . As food prices and cost of living increases so does the cost of construction materials. Any contractor worth his salt will not guarantee a price for months, and this has been going on for a couple of years now. Temporary or permanent structure. Get on with it !

I've said it all along the club are waiting to see if we remain in the EFL before splashing the cash on ground improvements. No need for improvements if we get relegated. Stay up and it will all get done in the summer, be patient.
