Dunes Hotel Stadium
Dunes Hotel Stadium
Listening to the Eagles singing Hotel California the other night made me think it could be about the ground when it was called The Dunes Hotel Stadium and my 70 year association with the greatest club on earth. So I’ve changed the words slightly to reflect this. If you know the words and the tune to the song, or if not you can google it, you might like this.
On the Holker St highway, wind and rain in my hair
And the warm smell of hot dogs rising up in the air
Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light
My heart was happy and my eyes lit up
We need to win tonight
Then I went through the turnstile
This place I know so well
And I was thinking to myself this could be heaven or this could be hell
So I bought me a programme, £3 I had to pay
There were voices from the terraces
I heard the tannoy say
Welcome to The Dunes Hotel Stadium
Such a lovely place, such a lovely place
There’s not a lot of room at The Dunes Hotel Stadium
Any time of year, you can find me here
My mind is Cowperthwaite crypted, I’ve got the Mulholland bends
There are lots of people here that I call friends
Now we shout from the terraces and get in a sweat
Some games I remember, some I want to forget
So I said to the captain, I know all the folk- lore
Cos I’ve been coming to this place since nineteen fifty- four
And still those voices are calling from Wilkie Way
They wake me up in the middle of the night
And I hear them say
Welcome to The Dunes Hotel Stadium
Such a lovely place, such a lovely place
We’re living it up at the Dunes Hotel Stadium
And we’re having a laugh in a blue and white scarf
Tonight he’s playing Beadling, the pink shirts are nice
We could easily win this game if we could only score twice
And in the corporate chambers they gather for their feasts
Then they go out in the wind and the rain
Hoping we can beat those beasts
Last thing I remember I was heading for the door
Hope we don’t find that passage back to the place we were before
Relax said the gateman, your programme you received
You can check out any time you like
But I never want to leave.
Guitar solo. The end.

Great work Scrube! Some of those Eagles hits could sum up our season.
This April - Peaceful easy feeling
Brough after Hartlepool - Already gone
Grimsby away - One of these nights
Next season - Take it to the limit
And one from the archives: Michael Jolley - Desperado

Re: Dunes Hotel Stadium
SO, who will be the stadium sponsor next season?
Re: Dunes Hotel Stadium
The length of the SO Legal sponsorship was not publicly stated as as I can tell - maybe there is an option to continue?
Re: Dunes Hotel Stadium
Very good, although I think the original lyric "You can never leave" was quite appropriate, in an ironic kind of way.
