Just a quick post to thank a few people for some recent and generous donations to the GMV kitty.

At the game on Monday I was handed an envelope with some cash in off liverpoolann who shared part of some recent winnings with us.

A few weeks back a gentleman off here who is a regular contributor and who wishes to remain anonymous also dropped some cash off for our kitty.

Also, and we don’t know who it is but for the last few years someone makes a monthly donation through our bank account.

As always, all donations are greatly appreciated by the GMV group and will be carefully spent on any continuing ground improvements.

As you will all know the club has a very busy summer on its hands & we’ve been asked help wherever possible, this is on top of the work we already had planned. Basically all the help we can get will help us and the club with an already huge amount of work to do over the close season.
There are many jobs on the go tomorrow morning - electrical, plumbing, painting & splash backs in the galley, serving tables, extractors in the gents….etc etc but any extra help, & with the weather being fine the food huts and tables will start to get a coat of preservative. That alone is quite time consuming.
If you feel like you could help out, even if it is only for the odd morning over the summer then it really will help.

If you could make it tomorrow then there will be a mid morning break with tea/coffee and food laid on.

The doors will be open from 8:00 but feel free to drop in at anytime.

Just a quick mention to our new sponsors for the coming season. Rather than one main sponsor as we’ve done in the past we’ve had three offers, so we decided to take them very kind donations (basically, it is a donation as TBH the people giving us the money don’t really get anything out of it other than knowing they’re helping us to help the club)
So thank you to Mark Cooksey who sponsored us two years ago, Steve Leonard who did the honours last season and Nige Fryer who has donated in memory a member of his family.
All this money will, as always be spent on upgrading various areas of the ground - indoor and on the terraces.

On this note, we rely totally on donations plus the money we make running a coach to half a dozen away games per season - which is a useful way of topping up our kitty. We’ve been doing quite a lot of work during the summer and the bank balance has taken a big hit….for example masonry paint - £200. Paint for the pop side roof - £120. Plastic cladding for the galley and bottom of the X Bar stairs £300. Treated wood for various areas £150. Various things connected to the electrical side £150. The list goes on….all of which is reducing the cash we have available by a considerable amount.
If anyone feels they can donate anything or knows of a business that could contribute towards these costs we would be very grateful. As we’ve always said, we can have dozens of volunteers but without money coming in there’s not much we could do to improve the ground.

As we’ve said before, any sized donation helps us to continue improving areas of the ground for the team (the changing rooms) the physio team (the physio room) the media (the press box) the club itself (improving the refreshment huts), for instance, the one we moved and kitted out with water & electricity in the garage corner now makes a very healthy profit every game without affecting the other hut at the steelworks end, plus many areas of the ground to help improve the little things for supporters on a match day.

Just a quick word to thank Tony Shearer who for the fourth year running has given our kitty a really good sized boost.
These sorts of donations are invaluable to allow us to continue doing our (albeit) small bit to improve various areas of the ground, many for supporters themselves.

We’d just like to thank a gentleman who works for a company called BGEN who has been helping us with electrical equipment for the ground. With the new stands going in, toilet blocks & away supporters refreshment huts being moved and requiring powering up there has been a lot of new wiring, sockets and other electrical items (that I basically know nothing about) being connected up and fitted. This has been a massive help as we (GMV) couldn’t have justified spending that sort of money & draining our kitty so it would’ve been another bill falling to the club.

I’ve also been told (by those that know these things ) that all of this stuff isn’t the cheap bog standard stuff but quality electrical gear.

Looks like BGEN are a pretty big set-up in engineering and have a regional office on Peter Green Way in Barrow. A very kind gesture, indeed.

That's great to hear.

Somebody from another local company helping out and making a difference, allowing GMV funds to go further.

GMV really do a lot of jobs that the club would otherwise find difficult to finance and allow the ground to continue to evolve. That sort of help from outside must be a great morale-raiser for them.

Bit of a long shot here….but if you don’t ask!

It’s been a really really busy summer for us, we originally had our main summer project planned which the NSC (well worth joining them as well, I can supply their membership forms if you were interested) were once again willing to fund it. Unfortunately we have been asked to do so much around the ground that we simply ran out of time, even with very very good numbers of volunteers, the positive is we managed to do virtually all the jobs we were asked to do - and some more. So, this is where we could do with a little help, tools have either broke or burnt out….literally today with the circular saw firing flames out of the motor! We really need to replace some of them, we have funds but we’d obviously prefer to use these on materials.

If anyone has any tools lying around that you no longer use such as a circular saw, any battery tooling - especially a jigsaw, drills….the list is endless. What would be even better would be if someone could buy some of the tooling for us, either by contributing towards them or an offer to buy something outright.

We know money is tight but we really are well down on some of the things we use virtually every visit.

Every job we do is 100% free to the club, as in labour charges but without the tools we need we’ll end up spending money put aside for materials, then the problem is we will be short of the tools….a vicious circle.
