Do you mean struggle for a top 10 finish or struggle to finish 22nd.
I'll be amazed if we finish top 10 this season unless we make at least 4 quality signings, the league this season will have some good teams in it ,We over achieved last season and we surprised teams in the first half, anyone who doesn't think it'll be harder this season should take a look at the teams who'll make up the league.
Pretty much said the same a month ago and upset a few on here. Looking at the make up of the league I’d be amazed if we finish top 10 next season.

It's a low risk signing, a one year contract with the option to extend if it turns out to be a masterstroke. If it doesn't work out, we aren't in another Bennett situation.
Popular side since '03.

It will be harder next season against the resources of the teams who have just come up and those who dropped down but Wild’s got a year under his belt and seen what is needed to improve us
I think Courtney Duffus will look to take the Number 9 shirt and it’s going to be a big chance for him in league 2.
Watched a couple goals he’s scored- looks like an instinctive player who will mix it up with central defenders and get up and attack a ball.
Let’s hope he can get the goals for us!

I said this a while ago and got criticised for it.What people have to realise.is that we are a small club financially amongst clubs with a lot more disposable income,so we have to rely on Pete Wild finding a few rough diamonds who he can turn into really good players as we will not be able to compete financially with a lot of the other clubs in our league.

Well maybe PW has just found those possible rough diamonds but, I have to agree with Blue Nige I think it was who said we are going to have to make around 4 quality signings as well to be able to compete in the coming season.

We were short on strikers most of last season; I’d be genuinely surprised if this lad has been signed with the intention of being our main striker alongside Garner, but we do need some more squad depth this season

Courted British tennis star Heather Watson for three years. Perhaps he was a little distracted from football for a while.

So Courtney Duffus. Between 2014-2023 he's made 42 appearance in the top 4 divisions in England and it's affiliated comps (EPL, Champ, LG1 & LG2/FA Cup, EFL Cup & EFL Trophy).

LG1 - 14 apps / 0 goals
LG2 - 19 apps / 1 goals
FA Cup - 3 apps / 0 goals
EFL Cup - 2 apps / 0 goals
EFL trophy - 4 apps / 0 goals

42 apps / 1 goal

He has a much better record in the Irish league and the National League and its respected comps.

He's got 88 apps / 33 goals

However, he does look like a big physical bloke, as others have alluded to.

Fingers crossed he can stay fit also, after his recent ACL at Morecambe 🤞🏻

Let's us pray

Without being over critical, WE can't start the season with definitely maybe striker's, there's only one way that's going to turn out!I really want all the player's we sign to do well BUT I'm not going to Bury my head in the sand wearing blue tinted glasses ( which I happen to possess!🤣)

Let’s see the lad kick a ball before we start saying it’s a bad signing, we’ve signed many of players who have came off the back of a poor record and turned out to be fan favourites

Hopefully the recruitment algorithm that brought us Bennett, Moyo and Garner has been tweaked to include some ‘putting the ball into the back of the net’ functionality.

Good luck to the lad.

Bit sad that the signing of Courtney Duffus doesn’t even seem to warrant its own thread.

At least give the guy a little respect before ripping whatever credentials he has to pieces.

Anybody that thinks that the fact that we finished so high last season means that we can expect a plethora of even reasonably recognisable names turning up is probably deluded.

It’s not quite back to square 1 but as with any other club that has not achieved a level of sustainability or has no access to alternative funds, will always start the following season with no greater or lesser expectation than any other.

The two most influential signings we made last season IMO were the two loanees. We couldn’t have known when we took them how good they would be and had we not had them we’d probably not have troubled the top half. Neither was signed until relatively late in the window either.

Happens every season. Whatever expectation is built at the end of the season is quickly followed by disillusionment when the expectation is not quickly met.

Both loanees signed early,Neal was early July and McClelland was June.

Loans were done early last year due to the season starting earlier because of the World Cup

My mistake. However the main point still applies. Very few if anybody on this forum would have had the first clue as to whether these two would’ve been able to do the business or fit into the squad until they started to perform. Apart from the clubs they came from and that is not necessarily a good indicator.

All I’m suggesting is that for a bulk of the clubs in League 2 the margins between success and abject failure are pretty small. And that these margins have to be revisited at the beginning of each season as players come and go.

FWIW I also think that after a season of relative tranquility we may return to a situation where one or more clubs in L1/L2 have very severe operating issues. In a League of great visible wealth I think that as in life this will disguise the massive gap with those at the other end of the financial spectrum.

In these circumstances maintaining a tight cohesive squad with a good manager is about as good as you can expect it to be.
