We have a large delivery of timber being made tomorrow for a big project the club have asked us take on, it was originally pencilled in for yesterday but storm Debi threw a spanner in the works.
We’ve had some amazing numbers on Sundays this year but with this being midweek we’re struggling to get enough people there to unload the timber and get it stored under the main stand. If anyone on here could spare a little time from 12:45pm onwards it’d be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks to all those who turned up today, it turns out the whole wagon load of timber turned up and not just what was asked for, for the first delivery, so decent numbers were needed even more than we had originally thought.
Anyway, all done.

One of the jobs from this morning - a new flag put up in the HSE in memory of Ian Worthington off his friends.

Also many thanks to them for making a very generous donation to the GMV kitty in his name.

They have also paid for a plaque for the fanzone with another supporter also wanting one. If anyone would like a plaque putting up can you please get in touch before we put the order in.

Bit of a long shot this as we know the people on this forum are only a very small percentage of the supporters who attend games but it’s worth a go, hopefully if you read this you could perhaps pass this on to others.

We were at the ground the morning of the 27th - which was a truly miserable, cold & wet day possibly the most miserable morning we’ve ever spent down there. Among other important jobs was the litter picking, it was an absolute nightmare and an awful job to do in them conditions. Obviously it’s hard when there was such a big attendance but to find all sorts of litter right next to the many bins around the ground is a bit disheartening. Within half a hour we were soaked through & cold but this is a job the club rely on us doing otherwise they’d be paying out a small fortune throughout the season for someone to do it. If possible please either take paper items home or drop it in a bin on the way out, it really would be appreciated. It was that bad weather-wise Kris Wilkes has very kindly offered to purchase half a dozen rain proof suits for the litter pickers, although hopefully we won’t ever have to do it again in such horrible conditions.
We also realise there aren’t any bins in either new stand so we’ll be placing some in and around them in the next week or so.

We have also re-tied the flags at the back of the HSE as the fairly strong string/twine has once again been snapped, this can only happen by people for some reason pulling on it - perhaps trying to get a better view? I don’t think for one moment it’s done on purpose but these flags were paid for by supporters and if any of the securing points are damaged the flags will end up ruined. I don’t know what the solution to this could be but we just wanted to point this out.

What would the club do without its volunteers a band of dedicated folk who turn up willingly regardless of the weather. IMHO the club could do more to help, maybe utilise the scoreboard at full and half time along with tannoy reminders. Display more notices in the stands reminding folk to bin it or take it home. Apart from that it’s a culture thing and up to each and every one of us to help the club.

We requested the tannoy announcements and Darren does this each game but the scoreboard thought is great idea, I’ll ask someone at the club if this can be done in the future.

Also, many thanks again to the people who keep donating to the GMV kitty, it really is appreciated and as you know, this money all goes into the pot for ground improvements.
One more thank you as well to the three local companies that have donated materials that over this season that have saved us/the club a couple of thousand pounds - if not more. They do all this anonymously, which is absolutely amazing when money is so tight for everyone.

Yep heard Darren at half time informing folk about the litter, just needs to be reinforced at full time as reminder to fans. The less time spent cleaning the place enables valuable resources to be utilised on other more important projects. You don’t necessarily have to be a volunteer to help the club just BIN it or BAG it. Simples and help the Volunteers and Club more than folk would know.

Well I saw last night what the problem is, people are trying to get a better view and while doing that they’re wrecking all the tied points on the flags. One was only re-tied on the 27th with a thin wire coated in plastic - now flapping around again.
We’ll try once more and if it happens again we’ll have to inform the people who the flags belong to and let them decide what they want to do with them.

A shame really but I’m not sure what else we can do.

Think the appeal to collect the rubbish had some effect. Saw people in main stand picking up empty cartons etc on way out and binning them. Pitty the persons who left them didn’t bin them themselves. Maybe an update on what the GMV have to say ?

I wasn’t there the other day mate but apparently it was better, possibly down to a lower attendance than Boxing Day….but hopefully down to the continuing announcements. We’ll ask the club to pop it up on the scoreboard every now and then as Barrow afc 2018 suggested.
We’ll also look at the positioning of the bins to see if we can make it easier for people to access them.

Positive reinforcement, we should take pride in our ground and all do our bit to improve a place where we get our enjoyment from.
