Whitfield and contracts

I think Barrow should be starting Whitfield more often than they do. And does anybody know how discussions on contracts are going, I know 3 have signed but not heard much more on others.

I can’t see Whits being with us next season, he must be miffed at lack of game time and starts. He’ll no doubt have been offered terms and has chosen to sit on the fence and who could blame him. On his day he’s unplayable but unfortunately for him and us he doesn’t quite fit the system/style PW wants to play. A definite crowd favourite and would be a sad loss but maybe a luxury player that just doesn’t fit the Wilde way. The other thing is he’ll no doubt be wanting to play every game whereas Wildy sees him more of an impact player, it’s all about opinions but that’s football I guess.

Ben Whitfield signed for Barrow from Stockport as he never fitted into Stockport's system at the time that being 3 centre halves and two wingbacks. Pete Wild signed him as an out and out winger and played him that way with a flat back 4. Around xmas time Wild changed to 3 centre halves and 2 wingbacks and has continued with that system ever since. The problem for Ben is that defensively playing at wingback he is not that good. . He was massively exposed against Colchester when they brought Fevrier on so much so Wild brought Mazeed on and put Ben up front.
With Newby being two footed he has something extra at wingback that Whitfield does not possess. Whits likes to cut inside where as Newby can go either way. and defensively he has improved.
Whits has been tried up front but for me he goes missing for long spells of the game when playing in that position.
He is an out and out winger IMO playing in a side with a flat back 4 but we don't play that system now so as a consequence he has found himself on the bench and being used as an impact player late in the game. I don't see Pete Wild changing the system anytime soon and I suspect Whitfield will depart in the summer looking for regular game time elsewhere.

Disagree although he does offer more than Telford, Stockton or Proctor as a striker even though he's an out-an-out right winger.

Just let Sir Pete sort it out if Whitfield or any player isn't here next season so what players come and go and have done for over a 100 hundred years.

We can do without these players in my opinion. None of them has made much of an impression on me except for Proctor and in his case not for the right reasons.

The only one of those six who 'could' have made an impression on anybody is Proctor. Duffus confidence took a knock when a Stockport defender tried to launch his head out of the ground. He went to hartlepool and was doing ok when he picked up an injury unfortunately just at a time when they were bringing in 3-4 new faces who established themselves during his absence. The other four are 'B' team players whom many won't have seen play at all. Etaluku seems to have got good reports from the games he's played and Bellis has certainly done himself no harm aiding Kiddys relegation fight. The other two haven't stamped any authority but to be fair their games have been very few and far between . If we were in mid-table obscurity and safe then I'm sure Pete would have been giving them chance to prove themselves, but I would repeat its difficult to impress if you're not playing.
