Just a thought. All underhand of course but I'm positive it goes on all through the EFL.
Like I said earlier since Xmas he probably regretted ever signing that five year deal with the hefty buy out clause should another club want him

My view is That someone within the club has convinced the board that the football model needs changed as we are now clearly going down the route of Director of Football and Head Coach as a way forward. I would have thought this was put to Pete Wild during the end of season review who took umbrage at the prospect, but was asked to go away and think over the way forward. He’s come back and understandably decided it’s unworkable for him and that’s been the end of it as far as all parties are concerned.
Not saying it’s the wrong way to do things and only time will tell but I can see where Pete Wild wouldn’t find it acceptable.
Gradually changing and evolving is always easier to take than wholesale change as it’s often met with a firm no!

There is another scenario that works and might explain the delay.

It’s possible that after the initial blowout when it became clear that Wild was not going to accept the new normal, the BoD may have picked up some interest in the Barnsley job either from Wild or Barnsley. If there was any chance that Barnsley might have been seriously interested the BoD would’ve wanted to retain his employment until the outcome became clear as compensation would then have been due.

The announcement came less than 24 hours after that job went to Daryl Clarke. Could be a complete coincidence of course but it is known that Barnsley did go through quite a long list of candidates as their preferred choices backed off.

I did look at that possibility but soon dismissed it. Do you really think the club would have stood in Pete Wild’s way if he was to be seen as bettering himself by moving up. It raises our profile as well as his and we get a substantial pay off too. I think the DoF and Head Coach roll has been in someone’s thinking for a while.

It’s been circulating the town for over two weeks that he had gone. I suspect dotting the Is and the crossing the Ts on his severance pay will have been the reason the announcement was delayed.
It was interesting to hear last night on Radio Cumbria Adam Johnson saying he had left messages with people high up at the club but nobody had got back to him and James Phillips saying he had rung Pete wild and got no response. A few minutes later the club released their statement

I think BBCRC sport hour discussing the elephant in the room was deffo the trigger to press the statement release button.

If Pete Wild was being a little naughty and was talking to clubs without agreement or had been tapped up. He will have been sacked or we would be seeking compensation too.

I think the wording of the statement will have been agreed by all parties and the mutual agreement wording used to save embarrassment

Ultimately the good people of the peninsula and beyond will believe what they want to believe regardless of whether it being true or not.

The truth won’t be disclosed by either party I would imagine non disclosure agreements will have been signed

For that one see above, the truth is always out there it’s just a case of being in the right place at the right time to hear it regardless on non disclosure agreements. Had my say time for others to have theirs👌

I think this is the most likely scenario, or a at least a big factor in it.

Surely that model has been in place since Wild and Wood turned up. It’s not as if tensions could not have been foreseen.

In order for the system to work, the manager (coach) reports to the DoF, not to the BoD. I assume therefore that Wood was always Wilds “line” boss.

There is your potential falling out point whether it be over recruitment, tactics, standards or anything else.

Once that relationship has been badly breached one of them has to go. As far as I can tell there has never been anything but a quiet satisfaction with Wood. If so Wild had to go.

It’s not unusual for DoF and a coach to fall out but a surprise in this case perhaps because these two were clearly close at the beginning of Wilds tenure. The delay in announcing Wilds departure could suggest an attempt at mediation or simply two sets of lawyers working out how each party could best extract themselves from their legal obligations.

Odd symmetry with the Burton situation. Apparently the club have not yet announced that the manager has left although it has been announced on Radio Derby and seems a foregone conclusion. One poster on their forum is querying if Cole Stockton will be retained should Wild get the job.
