Good manager. Went to BW vs Barrow season we got promoted and they were a strong, well drilled side who played good football. I remember Evatt had a lot of respect for him

Garrard would be my first choice, despite last season's failure. He had Boreham Wood punching above their weight for years. Dave Challinor was sacked by Fylde after one poor season and look at him now.

If we go down this route then recruitment has to be spot on. It will be a totally different brand of football than we’ve seen with Wild. His teams play out from the back and hi energy press from the front. Ok when you’re bossing games but when you’re losing with 10 minutes to go there’s no time for patient build ups (as IE and Bolton found to their cost in the L1 play off final v Oxford). I’m not sure it works in lower leagues. It went wrong at Plymouth. We cant all be trying to copy Pep.

I can’t remember many if any games last season where we had a high press from the front. We let teams pass it round at the back and barely pressed at all. We barely pressed the opposition wingers who put in loads of crosses against us. This tactic got more pronounced as the season wore on. Probably instrumental in our poor formin the second half of the season.

It’s an effective tactic and I don’t blame that for our dip in form.. I’ve seen us with 70% possession with Evatt and get beat because passing it around in your own half isn’t hurting teams. I do admire PW for sticking to his “process” but ultimately we didn’t score enough goals.

That and the fact that Newby, and Whitfield when he occasionally got on the pitch were the only players who put any crosses in. Stephenson got a lot of plaudits, but considering he was employed as a wingback, I could count on one hand the number of crosses he put in over the whole season. It was only against Mansfield that Canavan and Ray put any forward balls in along the ground that bypassed the opposition’s midfield - when they did, it was quite effective.

Also got them to play offs and Wembley . Punching above their weight for seasons due to the top management.

The pressing triggers came from midfield, hence the importance of Spence / Gotts / Campbell. Hard to judge if it was our creative side or our forwards actually sticking the ball in the net that was the main issue with the system. Could say not good enough on both fronts to keep us in the top 7.

Who thinks having a Director of Football with a First Team Coach is a good idea?If it works all well and good,but if we start off the new season badly what next?I am not saying this will happen,but if it does will heads roll?Didn,t Carlisle used to have one and they eventually went back.to just having a manager.? know Ian Wood has been great in getting people into the club,but surely a manager should have the final say on players always subject to affordability as he is the person who is closest to them.I would hate for us to be fighting relegation again after two reasonably successful seasons.
Thoughts please.
