The general feeling after Carlisle was that they were shot shy and maybe the supporting players needed to do more. This seemed to be rectified today with them all doing their bit, Newby in particular. Most would also have said that Acquah cannot lead the line on his own for 90mins. He is good as an impact sub. This was also proven today.

We will foller the soccer, over land and sea...
Re: It’s not Good!
What do you expect on a Barrow forum, Barrow is renowned for being full of pessimist with negative views. People find it so difficult to be positive and seem to be waiting for something to fail. Even during the good times people are waiting for failure just to say l knew it wouldn't last.
Im now in my seventies and l have lived out of Barrow for over thirty five years and it's always been the same and it will never change.

We lose one game against Carlisle and it was all gloom and doom on here.Did any of you doom mongers actually go to Carlisle? We made one stupid mistake which gave them the victory I went to all the preseason games bar two plus every game since and apart from last week I could see incremental improvements in each game culminating in todays performance against Port Vale.I think we will do ok this season .

Don’t get too high with the wins nor too low with the losses, Fantastic 2nd half that today.

In truth there’s no point losing sleep over why we can be beaten by a pretty poor Carlisle when seven days later we can give a much better team a bit of a drubbing.
There are probably many factors involved and probably an amount of luck/misfortune to account for some of it.
What disappointed me last week was that I was convinced that Simpson had done a job on us that we should have foreseen. This involved deliberately targeting and disrupting our midfield. IMO this negative tactic though effective, suggests that he was and is aware of some pretty fundamental weaknesses in his squad. Not confident enough to simply hit us with “superior” firepower.
Today we played a team that was so confident in its abilities all over the park that it did not really feel the need to worry much about us or our real strengths. Vale were happy to go toe-to-toe, convinced of their superiority. As a result our midfield was allowed to play without too much planned targeting and that made a very big difference. Also the subs when they came on added further threats that Port Vale did not deal with.
Port Vale do look a pretty decent outfit, a much better outfit than Carlisle, but they really did play to our strengths today and paid for it. On the other hand Carlisle clearly had no such plan up their sleeves at MK today and were by their own admission badly beaten.
It is indeed a strange old game. Probably why we get so addicted to it.

Re: It’s not Good!
I went to Carlisle as did many others on here and if you thought that performance last week was anything but poor at best then I don’t know what to say. There’s nothing wrong at all in calling out the poor games/performances so long as it’s a measured approach. Don’t try and cover up one awful display because we play better the week after, that doesn’t make sense.Methuselah wrote: ↑Sat Aug 24, 2024 7:51 pm We lose one game against Carlisle and it was all gloom and doom on here.Did any of you doom mongers actually go to Carlisle? We made one stupid mistake which gave them the victory I went to all the preseason games bar two plus every game since and apart from last week I could see incremental improvements in each game culminating in todays performance against Port Vale.I think we will do ok this season .
We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.

Re: It’s not Good!
I never said we played well last week.Simpsons plan was to disrupt our midfield and it worked. He also used the offside trap a lot and we fell for it every time. The game last week was terrible and we let them rule the game.I thought our initial team selection was wrong and we tried to be too defensive instead of attacking Carlisle's goal.We left it too late to up our game.Simpson doesn,t have a plan B as was shown today. We had an off day last week and hopefully our manager has learn,t the tactical mistake of last week and it won,t happen again.Today you saw what this team can really do when it all comes together and I hope we see more performances like that.spirit of 1990 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 24, 2024 10:27 pmI went to Carlisle as did many others on here and if you thought that performance last week was anything but poor at best then I don’t know what to say. Re: It’s not Good!
I don't think anyone was being negative, and I still think they've got something of a point.
If Bailey was up top today it would've been 7.
Popular side since '03.
Re: It’s not Good!
A good win but one swallow does not make a summer.
Still think we need another midfielder and forward.
Where were the forwards against Carlisle ?
We got beat by a team whose only win was against us and had 9 goals put past them in 4 games.

Re: It’s not Good!
But you are trying to have a sly dig at people who called that game out for what it was (and it was a very very poor performance) by saying anyone who had a negative to say was in the wrong! And looking at what you’ve just posted you are now making it sound like we are world beaters!Methuselah wrote: ↑Sat Aug 24, 2024 11:10 pmI never said we played well last week.Simpsons plan was to disrupt our midfield and it worked. We had an off day last week and hopefully our manager has learn,t the tactical mistake of last week and it won,t happen again.Today you saw what this team can really do when it all comes together and I hope we see more performances like that.spirit of 1990 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 24, 2024 10:27 pm

Re: It’s not Good!
Next week will be a very good test. Harrogate will set out to do exactly what Carlisle did. They are a team whose entire playing style is based on stopping the opposition from playing. Exactly what they did yesterday at Colchester before pinching it with a speculative break away that created a howler of a defensive mistake.
It’s the reason they punch above their weight so much. Also why everybody hates them.

Re: It’s not Good!
Completely agree. I also think we need a striker (with pace) and another midfielder. The match at Harrogate will be interesting as if we play as well as we did on Saturday we will have a great chance of a win but another Carlisle performance will result in defeat which, I think, will make it 13 away matches without a win. Any team with hopes of being near the top of the league has to win a fair proportion of away matches.Pedro wrote: ↑Sun Aug 25, 2024 6:03 am

Here we go again Gloom and Doom two the best contributers on here. The manager knows we need another couple of players but at the right price,he hinted as much in his interview with Adam.If we win against Harrogate are you going to change your opinion and be a little more upbeat? Our current manager has been in this game a long time and I think he knows better than any of us.There will be dips but overall I think we will do ok.
