'He is a versatile defender who is capable of playing right-back or centre-half' - Barrow AFC Press release.

He was selected on the right-side of a back 3 defensive line.

As it turned out, his defensive positional play and his defensive capabilities, were sadly lacking at Swindon, resulting in 3 goals.

Agree re Mahoney can’t believe he gets a berth ahead of Newby in fact it’s like going down to ten men when he comes on. If we as fans can see it why can’t the management.
Mahoney's got ability but that's no use without effort and he has little of that. Same applies to Harper. Sadly some of the ones who do put in the effort have little ability!
He’s totally anonymous apart from that goal last season he’s contributed zero. Jacko has seen the biggest loss of form I’ve seen in a player, god only knows what’s happened there. Harper another lazy get. All with great ability but no character, we can’t afford to carry these players in the situation we’re in.

The lad was on the bench for Forest on Thursday night in the Europa league. I dare say the injury to Freddie Anderson made his signature more urgent so he has dashed to Manchester on Friday morning to sign meet his new teammates, training session then jump on a bus for the long journey to Swindon on Friday afternoon.
It’s hardly the ideal preparation for making your football league debut. I dare say he might otherwise been a deadline day signing as needs must yesterday.
For the reasons ive stated I think the lad should be cut a bit of slack imo

If and its a big IF we survive this season. The manager needs to be ruthless and get rid of the deadwood. Newby, Jackson,Mahoney,Harper, all the CF's bar Rose. Saying Newby should be in there because he tries his hardest isnt enough, we need quality. Yes, that will cost money, but it also involves smart recruitment. Something in which we lack

You can't be serious?!

Jack Thompson, No. 26, right-full back was responsible for ALL 3 goals - yet I don't see his name mentioned in any post?
Two things to say there:
1) Look at the time it was posted; it was still 1 - 1;
2) The words "Sounds like..." suggests that maybe, just maybe, I was picking that up from the commentary.

A real baptism of fire for the lad yesterday against a tough opponent Palmer who is a handful for anyone at this level. Probably wouldn’t have played had H Anderson been fit but he needs a couple of games to get used to the pace and physicality, not that we can afford too much time but that’s what you get with young loan players like him and not an experienced pro. The likes of Jimmy Dunne and Bobby Thomas even Tom Anderson didn’t have the greatest of starts with us but went on to be good signings for us and have gone on to have good careers.
Yes he should get tighter to affect the first was too easy for Palmer but then we should never have conceded that corner in the first place. The second I blame Harper more he has the chance to make a tackle or foul and doesn’t just ambles back, the third a few people switched off weren’t tight enough.

Joe Anderson for me also needs to improve and as others have said the more senior players need to step up too, hard for young players coming into this team and environment as it is.

Mahoney should be nowhere our squad again and Harper is another who has been steadily dropping down the leagues for a while now, there’s a reason for that.

Gallagher needs some reaction after this and they’ve got to do it quickly. They need to be shown that he wont accept it, no criticism of previous Manager, but the whole work ethic needs to improve. It’s not good enough and they’ve got to start showing more commitment. Whether thats running harder, making more sprints, making more tackles, Every one of them. That’s what fans want to see first foremost and these players need the fans on side. Five of our last six defeats have been late on (after substitutions) because we’ve stopped running, stopped tackling, thinking we've done enough, whilst the other teams have managed to find that extra 10% to finish us off. It’s a repeat pattern.
"To achieve anything and to get to the Football League, we have to expect to win every game. I've got to get everyone believing that we can, and I will work hard to embed that mentality into the players, the town, the board and whoever else” Ian Evatt.

Yep, we have conceded 12 in the final 15 minutes this season and have scored just 4 in the same period.

Nice try. 2. Blame Adam. 1. Thompson was marking Palmer - Palmer scored. Did you not notice that?
