Following today’s result our relegation is confirmed from League 2. The owners have made the following statement;

To all fellow Bluebirds, what an awful season.

The only words we can say to you all is how sorry we are.

As a group of owners our intentions have always been in the best interests of the club. Every decision made was with the aim of improving our beloved club. Some have been successful, many have not.

Our EFL journey has been a wonderful experience, yet increasingly difficult to compete despite significant and continued investment from the owners. Losing our EFL status leaves us hurting and let down, just like you are.

That said, ultimately the buck stops with us. It would be easy for a statement full of soundbites like ‘root and branch review of the season’.

We are acutely aware of what’s gone wrong and we are well down the road ensuring the club is heading in the direction we need to go forward and grow.

Words are easy to say so let us be judged by our actions. Over the coming days and weeks, we’ll be making a series of announcements as we restructure and fully reset the club.

To do this we need your support more than ever. Relegation has a stigma which can linger, we can only break this united together. We want to build up a club we are all proud of again.

It's not going to be easy but you all have been amazing following us both at home and all over the country. We need that support more than ever.

Relegation doesn’t define us, it’s just a moment in time, and we’ll come back stronger.

We had 6 seasons to get it right, other sides seemed to
Manage it but we were spending a lot on players and
Changing the manager at regular intervals didn’t help

It is what it is - can’t live in the past but for the club to grow it needs to be more sustainable off the pitch and the right people in the right positions on and off the pitch.

The most Ai generated statement I’ve ever seen

We maybe weren’t ready to go up when we did and it took us by surprise but it was a great opportunity. We haven’t made the most of it. Money had to go into the first team but we’ve wasted so much on poor managerial choices, players on long contracts who haven’t performed and or have been injured.

Training facilities have never really been ideal or fixed and that goes back to the mark cooper days, to quote him it’s a part time club in the Lake District with no facilities. Wood and Harvey aren’t solely responsible but both have to move on and a new approach on that side, no more being ripped off by agents and players.

I’d like to think going down could see us being
More successful next season and competing at the top end of the table, bringing in bigger crowds etc and getting some interest back but I’m not so sure. The worry is we were starting from scratch which will take time and could emulate Scunthorpe and morecambe if we’re not careful.

See this is the sort of statement that grates me. When are we ready to be a league club? We had to grasp it and grow onto it. We finished 8th and 9th back to back seasons. The truth is we never capitalised on it. We took our eye off things and made poor decisions at crucial times. Ie player recruitment was poor in summer and again in January. That’s what has sent us down.

We have to think like and aim to be a league club again. We cannot undo what has been done but the worst thing we can do is slip back into a non league mindset. Remember what Evatt said. Don’t forget that.

Is it significant the statement isn’t signed by Ian wood,we have got to get out recruitment right,not sure about the fitness levels as couldn’t string many 90 minutes performances together,too many weak mentally characters so some squad trimming,find a new manager who we can rally around but most importantly of all develop a possession based football team that can create chances and play good football,in the national league to get promoted you need to average about 2 points a game so you need to get lots of wins,York and Rochdale play that way and they should be the blueprint .Ian Evatt got us promoted that way,it’s a sad day today but we have got to learn from this season and hope the board who have done many great things can find the right strong footballing manager and that is certainly not Coughlan
