Are they good players though? We only have the managers word on that when they sign and most of us won’t have seen them play before. Of the new signing only Ward and Marriot have stood out for me as good signings.
The centre of defence looks poorer than last season. None of them look comfortable on the ball and at times it’s like an accident waiting to happen
No, they are not good players. I agree with you re Ward and Marriot although Ward didn't do a lot against Kidderminster. Even then, is Marriot as good as McCann? I'd say nowhere near as good. Is Ward as good as Fletcher? Possibly but too early too tell. Otherwise are any of the new players coming in any better than the poor players they have replaced? I've watched all 5 matches and I'd say not one!
I think Ward is still a way off full fitness as Murray said in his interview. He started off brightly and was at the heart of anything good that we did as was crankshaw. He did fade as the game went on but had a good shot in the second half well saved. I liked the look of Marriott first time I’ve seen him properly he’s neat and tidy in there and industrious, linked well with Ward I thought.
A different type of player to McCann who would’ve been good for us I think in this league had a good game for Cheltenham on Saturday but unfortunately he wanted to go.
As for the others I think Oakley is out of position too much and has struggled, his man walked by him yesterday. Digie looks an absolute bomb scare to me and will cost us either trying to wrestle someone or letting the ball go over him. Kalamabayi I actually like but he’s not great on the ball and lacks pace, needs a good ball playing centre half alongside him and probably needs us to play a few yards deeper so he’s not caught out. Amos looks okay but Latty Fairweather, not sure I’ve seen a sub get subbed by us before other than through injury - he was dreadul completely anonymous and let the ball go out under his foot completely in the second half.
Still early days yes but I think it’s clear we are a few players away still and that’s fine not all signings will work out, I just hope we have the money to continue adding and hopefully move a few more on.
