Re: Barrow v Stockport County, match thread
Paul Farman has certainly played great for many games now and made some terrific saves, but no one is perfect. To me, he doesn't dominate the 6-yard box on high balls like top goalies do, preferring to remain fixed on the goal-line. Stockport's 2nd goal was headed in from about 2-yards from a bye-line cross. He also allowed a 2-yard headed-goal by Crewe last week from a corner that had 'goalie's ball' written all over it, but he remained stationary on his goal-line (see pic). Yes Farman can be fantastic at times, but not going for high balls in the 6-yard box is his weak spot, a flaw, IMO, think he lacks confidence in this area but it's something he can work and improve on.

Re: Barrow v Stockport County, match thread
I would class it as a deliberate unsuccessful attempt to clear.blumooncrab wrote: ↑Wed Dec 27, 2023 2:32 pm Did he have control of the ball ? I don’t think he did .
If the pass, attempt to gain possession or clearance by the player in control of the ball is inaccurate or unsuccessful, this does not negate the fact that the player ‘deliberately played’ the ball.

Been saying this for a long time, he makes some terrific saves but does let in some clangers. Long running joke around where i stand that he never comes for crosses amd when he does we all cheer. I think people have been sucked into his hype. Theres better out there for the money IMOSayitagainSam wrote: ↑Wed Dec 27, 2023 2:49 pm Paul Farman has certainly played great for many games now and made some terrific saves, but no one is perfect. On the highlights there doesnt appear to be a deflection on the 1st goal either, he should have saved that

I have criticised him myself in the past but this season along with George Ray he is our most improved player this season IMO. Name me a better keeper in league 2 this season ?beachy01 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 27, 2023 6:25 pmBeen saying this for a long time, he makes some terrific saves but does let in some clangers. Sitting in the stand directly behind the shot there did appear to be a deflection.beachy01 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 27, 2023 6:25 pmBeen saying this for a long time, he makes some terrific saves but does let in some clangers. Ones ive seen? Hincliffe and lewis to name but 2. Commanding your box is a massive part of goalkeeping, and for me he doesnt do it. But i did say this year he has been better, but i think we can get better. Thats my opinion, thats why opinions are great, like arseholes, everyone has one
If there was a deflection then fair one but on the higlights there didnt look lile there way one

Re: Barrow v Stockport County, match thread
Stockport player floated the ball from the goal-line which was headed-in by #4 as per X's with NO challenge for an easy-height ball for Farman, 2-steps from goal, which cost us victory and 2 points.

If it wasn’t for Paul Farman, we wouldn’t be where we are in the table right now. He’s been absolutely immense. If there’s a better keeper in League Two, I’m yet to see him play.

Re: Barrow v Stockport County, match thread
There isn't a better keeper in league 2 this season imo. The save from Charlie Austin at Swindon when 1.0 up was a big turning point in the game. The penalty save at Harrogate. His heroics away at Forrest Green and many more great saves this season that has enabled us to have one of the best goals against columns in league 2.
Re: Barrow v Stockport County, match thread
He headed it in 4 yards out, regardless of whether Ray picked him up, thats a keepers ball all day long, especially if the balls floated in like it was. Re: Barrow v Stockport County, match thread
His starting position was all wrong before it, the minute I saw where he was I knew they'd score. Too easy but we were finding them very hard to deal with at that point and pressure makes things happen.
BUT... He's been immense all season, wouldn't swap him for anyone in League 2 right now.

Re: Barrow v Stockport County, match thread
Best Keeper in the League or not is irrelevant. The point is Farman is failing to deal with regulation high balls into the 6-yard box, which is costing us. These crosses are HIS for the taking. It's his weak link and if he handled them as he should, he'd be an even better Keeper than he already is, #1 or not. Goalie's are not supposed to stand fixed to their goal-line. Everyone has room for improvement in their given profession including, you, me and Paul Farman. If you can't agree with that, sorry.

Re: Barrow v Stockport County, match thread
If he was better at this that or the other he wouldn’t be here, it’s as simple as that. Personally I wouldn’t swap him for any other keeper in this league. I know that’s only based on limited viewings but without s shadow of a doubt he’s been a major reason why we are where we are right now.SayitagainSam wrote: ↑Wed Dec 27, 2023 9:08 pmBest Keeper in the League or not is irrelevant. We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.
Re: Barrow v Stockport County, match thread
Think we are over analysing.
Ok I thought if we get 7 points for these 3 games we would be still on track.
When we win at Wrexham we will have gone above the 1.5 points per game.
We are still within striking distance of the automatic promotion places which I think is where we will finish.
