Had a cup of tea and reflected on the match, then I thought about the irony of how these last two games contrasted with how things were under Wild. By that, I mean that least season most games we often conceded 70% possession but defended well and often grabbed a goal to win. These last two games, we have had the 70% possession and the opposition have grabbed the goal

No Kouyate, Worral, Mahoney (not checking if I've spelt them right 🤣) missing and Newby on the bench. Eccleston on the bench who I think is a good attacking threat. We seem to rotate the wide players and front men a bit too much and no one gets a run in the team. You can't put Telford on the last 10 minutes every game and just expect him to score (well we hope he would but he doesn't)
This selection was like England vs Greece by trying to fit everyone on the pitch at once. Gotts, Spence, Campbel, Foley - just doesn't seem right to me. I do think Farman and Canavan would bring a bit more stability back to the team so we may have not been in such bad form but thats a maybe. Massive run of games coming up over the next few weeks (5 in next 7 at home?) I'm just hoping we put in a performance and get a result on Tuesday to steady the ship 🙏

Have we been found out? 4 centre mids on at once? Same that’s happened at Gillingham for Clemence? A lot of questions after today! Don’t create anything, strikers which were horrific last year, still absolutely terrible again! Spence reacted at the end from frustration from the fans, not aimed at Spence at all he’s by far our best player of nothing goes through him we create nothing!
Not a question of have we been found out, it's why are we not putting balls into the box?

We dominated and played good football but do not penetrate the box, we go back and sideways but not into the box?
We get possession back quick enough, we can control a game but we just don't give the strikers a chance!
Something is fundemtley wrong..
But its easy to knock the ball around in areas that don't matter, and where the opposition don't mind you having it. To me, that isnt 'dominating and playing good football'. As you rightly say, its the penalty area that counts, and if you're not getting the ball in there regularly you are emphatically not playing good football.

Well he started the game with the player who has the most assists (and crosses) to his name on the bench. That’s his decision. Secondly, what about strikers creating chances for themselves when there’s nothing coming their way in terms of service? He’s rotated every striker again and he’s faced with the same problem Wild had. Getting goals.
Jonty, the supply isn't there!

I played as an attacker and yes, you make your own chances but the balls into the box were as rair as unicorn shit.. we dominated, possession was perfect, the movement of the ball was good but getting into the box was few and far between..
As much as the attackers frustrate me, without supplying balls into them, how can they be prolific?
I’m not disagreeing with you! he’s started with a narrow line up without Newby / Kouyate / Worrel (injured) / Popov on the flanks which is where most of our creativity and supply comes from.

Lacking confidence is the only thing I can think of? Surely the instructions are not to not pass into the box?

Frustrating jonty, that's all I can say.

We should have come away with three today but we didn't! Keeping the ball and having 70% possession doesn't mean naff all unless we score goals.

One thing I will say.. fair play to our support today, from the off till the final whistle we were right behind them and loud and proud. Give yourselves a massive pat on the backs.

When we scored 4 against Portvale we went for the jugular we ran at defender's outside and inside, none of this intricate passing crap just direct attacking play but nothing will change until Clemence actually decides how he wants to play because I don't honestly know which Barrow team turn up !

Having been there again today that was a hard watch.Stanway seems to take too long to redistribute the ball, plenty of sideways and backwards passing and we didn,t seem to go down the wing much today. We play ok up until the final third and then it,s "What do I do with the ball now?.We seem to be clueless about getting into the right positions and then take too long to pass the ball.We definitely need somebody who can get on the end of the crosses and put the ball in the back of the net.Having said all that I thought the ref was rubbish and bottled the big decisions when it mattered.I just hope we show up on Tuesday night otherwise it could be the start of a very slippery slope.

For me the most disappointing thing was the lack of urgency, especially in the last ten minutes.

Instead of getting the ball forward more decisively and trying to put Accy under pressure was passed it sideways and backwards and gave them all the time in the world to mark our men and stick a foot in. We'll never score from our own penalty area. We need to stop trying to walk it in all the time and have a bloody go more often.

The ref was very poor and fell for every trick in the dark arts box that they tried. If Accy players are struggling with cramp after 65 mins they should be getting the physio on and being treated off the pitch, timewasting gets, not getting a tickle of the foot off a teammate.

russell_anderson wrote: ↑Sat Oct 19, 2024 2:48 pm The fact that Accrington have won 3 matches in a row proves just shows the level of this league. The fact that we completely dominated the match and created next to nothing just shows the level of our attacking players. We have absolutely nothing up front in terms of pace or skill whether it be through the middle or out wide. Jackson is our most creative attacker as he's a full-back! Our most likely scorers are Vassell, Canavan (when fit) and Eccleston from Jackson's corners. Garner, Telford, Dallas and Kouyate give the team absolutely nothing with Newby and Acquah giving not much more.

However, we were robbed today with a definite goal disallowed and a certain penalty not given BUT even those chances were given to us by a woeful Accrington team and not created by our forwards!

Not much wrong with our defence as the goals against proves and will be even better when Canavan returns. Stokes has been a decent deputy but is no Canavan and not much wrong with our midfield either but nothing from up front or wide.

We will soon be re-named as Barrow Nil!!
Yep- good post. Clemence faced with his first test. Yes missing Farman / Canavan as they are leaders on the pitch but the real problem area is at the other end.
