Re: the overnight stays
The law states that an employer must pay expenses necessarily incurred in the course of employment. These include hotel accommodation when working away from the main point of work. So if Hopwood Hall is the main training ground and the main point of work the hotel accommodation should be paid for when staying in Barrow, unless it’s written in to the players’ contracts that Holker Street is the work base. This regardless of salary. That’s the law.
It is usual practice for companies in the UK to prepay for employees hotel rooms on a corporate card or by invoice. However, this doesn’t seem to be the American way. You claim it back. Rightly or wrongly, this is their system but not everyone can wait 2/3 weeks for expenses to be paid back. Again, regardless of salary we all have bills to pay including the players some of whom will have mortgages and young families to support.
And before anyone says ‘but it’s foitball, it’s different’. No it’s not. A business is a business and is subject to EU and UK employment law.
The players are staff and have every right to be reimbursed under the guidelines above.
If I’ve said it once I’ve said it a million times....the rot starts at the top! I’ll just put my bitter

away now
