Accident reportedly happened at 6am! I know it was serious, but do the police really need 9 hours or more to investigate it?

Another point I think that should be mentioned is about the press reports of our game and this incident.
On Sky Sports when they were announcing the results it said that the match was a late ko due to the home team not arriving on time which wasn't true. Some of the home team were here before 2pm while the rest arrived between then and 3pm. It was the dumb-ass ref and officials who didn't get to the ground till about 3.20pm who were late in arriving so I hope the Press Association will correct their story on this one?
Although the accident on the M6 happened earlier in the day I don't think the diversion roads were too good and were mostly single lane roads with numerous traffic lights and they were also heavily congested and tailbacks were long. I think many ended up taking back roads and some even got the train from Preston/Lancaster to Barrow.

As soon as the club new about the problem on M6 they should have contacted the ref, I'm sure they'd of known where he was coming from (Lancashire) and he couldve set off earlier or got the train. There was plenty of time to get there in good time - the motorway had been shut since half 6. I found out off BBC Cumbria twitter at half 9. Im surprised the players don't set off first thing in morning anyway, to prep better for matches.

Do you know that they didn't contact him then?

Well no, but if he got there that late then I assume they didn't till later in the morning, and he was only coming from south Lancashire. Why not get a train?

That's quite a big assumption

I was caught in the traffic myself, the police originally estimated the road would be open by 12.15pm, which would have been fine for the players/refs/fans and therefore most (like myself) would have thought that getting to Barrow for 1.15 -1.30 would not have been a problem. It was only close to this time that the road remained shut and by then many were already in the traffic. The traffic into Lancaster was virtually at gridlock, as was the M6, so getting a train was out of the question once you were in the traffic.
At the end of the day it is a football match and was delayed by 1 hour 15mins, NO GREAT PROBLEM. I would have sat in traffic for another 6 hours or however long it took as long as the police could establish all the facts that led to the tragic accident and give some answers to the family and friends of the man. For people to question whether its takes 9 hours is ridiculous and down right selfish in the circumstances surrounding the delay. Wake up and see what is further than the end of your nose, you might get a sense of reality.
