Agree I`ve given up on this because it could have (and should have) be done as was promised!

Hes full of shit when it comes to ground. I find him a lot like a politician, never get a straight answer.
12 months ago he was telling us all about acquiring the pitch next door(story's about Walmart and asda) last night he said we not bothered about it and don't need it.

Anyone with a basic knowledge of the history of Barrow AFC knows that it was built on a rubbish tip.

I'm disappointed about the ground redevelopment plans but as long as once the floodlights come down everything is tidy and eventually the ground improves that's ok with me I suppose.

When I started following Barra we had a roof on our end, surely a roof is still a possibility just replacing old for new? I'm no builder but surely if there once was a structure in place this can be done again??I'm sick of getting peed wet through and it's never had a proper atmosphere since the Holker st roof days!!

Its not as simple as just putting a roof on top. The foundations of the holker street end have crumbled over time. You would need to rebuild the stand from the bottom up which would cost a fortune.

I don't believe any of the ground development stuff anymore, on whatever scale we are talking. There's been a lot of broken promises so far, some of which were promises that contributed to the vote going PC's way in the first place.

TBFL, he's spent a shedload of money just making sure that the ground meets minimum standards but I think the dream of swish, completely new stadium on the current site is dead.

Is a new shared ground with the egg chasers a step nearer?

Regarding the ground, the HSE isnt going to turn into the kop any time soon. Sounds like he has reasonable plans for the main stand and crossbar end, which would significantly improve the ground.
This will be unpopular but fans need to accept the HSE as it is, its barely used in comparison to the rest of the ground, I get that historically its the 'home' end but there's no point chucking money into an old rubbish tip.

Overall happy that people are being realistic regarding ground developments and improvements. I never saw the need for a huge all seater all singing bells and whistles stadium that would make us as pretentious as man utd!

The HS end does however disappoint.. yes its crumbling, yes its built on a tip BUT.. Modern lightweight building structures should be the way forward? People say that its an end not used anymore..NO WONDER! its wet and miserable.. It is our home end, and we should be making roads into making it our home once more! Yes there is nostalgia and perhaps rose tinted goggles.. but its true, the atmosphere was brilliant and it MUST make a difference on the pitch for the players if they can hear the noise and excitement?
It doesn't have to be huge, it doesn't have to cost millions...
I have spoken to many architects on my travels (part to do with my work) and often talked about the so called issues regarding the "tip" and it is most definitely not “sumountable”.. a lot of whom have been involved in stadia and have had bigger challenges than ours to contend with.
Why do we just stop when there is a so called hurdle? lets get over or around them!

It is what it is.

Paul's very bright and knows how to work a room- that's no doubt partly why he's made a few quid. You drop in bad news off the field when things are great on the park. Had John Mackay delivered that in his own inimitable fashion there would have been lynchings. It's a skill.

I'm sure Tony Keen used to say that it was 250,000 just to sort out what we were building on even before we re-built the HSE.

Maybe it's time to stop reminiscing about the HSE roof and see what, if people want, we can do about the current morgue like atmosphere, starting Saturday when we will have a few folk in.

The previous cover was built using railway lines for uprights that had reached the end of their original lives by the 1920s. Their outline can be seen in the HSE concrete. Modern building regulations will require something more appropriate with consequential improvements to foundations which will probably need to be piled. It may be necessary to remove the present terracing for this to take place, given the condition of the rear retaining wall.

There's nothing impossible about any of that but it will inevitably be towards the back of the queue behind ensuring existing facilities are safe and fit-for-purpose (which of us realised that some steelwork on the main stand roof would have needed replacing already?), floodlight replacement, football expenditure and, let us hope, ensuring that Football League requirements can be met.

What do you mean, "make us as pretentious as man Utd " what a pathetic example.
