Suttons home form recently has been pretty good however so this will not be a an easy game. None of them will be from here on in. Think the Dover runout and result will now have a positive effect on a squad that has had some time off. Need to take chances but if we can do this we'll be difficult to beat.

After seeing the matches against Bromley and Boreham Wood this season and matches at Sutton in previous seasons, I can say with absolute certainty that the pitch at Sutton has very little similarity to the other 2. Those at Bromley and Boreham Wood play very similarly to normal grass pitches whereas Sutton's does not! Hopefully, there won't be any gale force winds on Saturday othewise that pitch will be virtually unplayable and the game will be a succession of throws-in, goalkicks and corners as the players struggle unsuccessfully to catch up with the ball!

Boreham Wood have an excellent grass pitch!

It's not a true grass pitch but is a hybrid with the advantages of playing like a proper grass pitch but also much less chance of falling foul of the weather. Bromley and Boreham Wood pitches both play much like a normal greaas surface whereas yours is nothing like with a ridiculously high bounce and no error at all if a pass is hit even slightly too hard.

Jesus. We had half a thread on this not too long ago and now somebody from Sutton is kicking it off again. As Russell says the Bhamwood surface is a hybrid an expensive mixture of plastic and natural grass (precise percentages unknown). It looks like grass, and plays like grass but does not wear like grass. This I can vouch for as I was poking it with my finger only a few weeks ago. Its outrageously expensive for an NL team and has been gifted to the Wood by Arsenal to accommodate their Women's Premiership team. Some refer to it as 5G but that isn't strictly true as no such certification has as yet been sanctioned by the FA/Premiership/EFL.

By comparison Suttons looks like a plastic pitch and from previous experience plays like one with a variable bounce influenced by the conditions. Dry and windy is not good; wet and settled is better. Whilst it can be a bit of a lottery, it does suit teams that have pace and can keep the ball on the ground - hence my original comment. Personally I'd rather be playing at Gander Green Lane on Saturday than on Barnet's Xmas pudding of a pitch at the Hive. Further as previously suggested Halifax RL did play at the Shay last night so their surface probably ended up looking like a Black Forest gateau. I think we are an all weather team these days.

Don't take it personally! I've nothing against Sutton United. It has always seemed to be a decent club with a decent team over many years. I've nothing against artificial pitches as long as they are of the type which allow football to be played in a similar manner to grass pitches. Unfortunately, the majority of 3G football pitches don't. This is why they still aren't allowed by the Football League and are disliked by professional footballers (the last survey done by the PFA had a vote of 94% against their use). We have had a debate on here over the possibility of a joint ground with the local Rugby League team with an artificial pitch being used and there are views for and against. There is no doubt that in financial terms an artificial pitch is a positive as it can be used for many other activities without causing damage but while I'd be happy to watch football matches on a pitch like Boreham Wood's each week, I wouldn't want to watch to many on most 3G pitches. Unfortunately, a pitch like Boreham Wood's costs more than most non-league and lower league clubs could ever afford!

Tommy - have you seen the weather forecast for the North-West recently? I'm beginning to wonder if the Furness Peninsula is going to turn into Furness Island with Walney to become a modern day Atlantis and the lifeboat station relocated to the Ship Inn at Roose!
