My God. Hate the place. Played rugby there and unanimously from the team, we were glad to get out of their league. Only hope that we don’t fall foul, by pushing money into them and then having to leave. Having said all that, things can change and at least it’s a start. COYB.

In fairness some people do seem to have genuinely bad memories of this place. However, the club are clearly looking to invest in & upgrade the facilities. As such we kinda need to forget what it was like and instead trust that it will become the training ground everyone has been screaming out for.

Securing a training base has been problematic for a while. Hopefully this is somewhere we can settle and benefit. The only thing is it’s a financial hit the club has to take to keep us accessible to as many players as possible. Also we don’t know if we’ve secured a pitch for our own use only (whilst also paying to maintain it). The other element to this is gym work and treatment rooms which I would imagine are part of a professional training facility set up. Where does that fit in? Does this place have all that?
I hope it’s still the intention train in Barrow before a home match (didn’t we strike a deal with DW sports to use their gym and pool?) and also to support any future academy plans.

We don’t know the detail so we will all second guess at it- usually in our typical glass half empty way. But the typical questions- Do we have a pitch set aside for our use only? What is the length of the deal? What is included in the deal, do they have gyms, treatment rooms, all weather pitches etc, …and crucially..how much are Barrow planning to invest in the facilities.

This is a bit of a surprise to me. I've lived in the area for 30 years and de la sale was/is a rugby club who train there and have developed a members social club. Not sure what other facilities they have but have to say this doesn't seem to "fit an efl club" for me but I hope I'm wrong

Looking at it on Google maps it doesn’t seem to have much, no all weather by the looks just a few pitches which look alright to be fair.
Another observation is it seems fairly open, one side just has a 4ft ish metal rail, I know we aren’t Man Utd but…

Trying not to be too negative hopefully it works out but looks interesting to say the least.

We are delighted to announce a multi-year agreement with De La Salle Sports & Social Club in Salford for the use and development of their facility as our training base going forward, commencing this pre-season in late June.

The site offers an excellent existing base for our First Team training and there are exciting plans to enhance the facilities going forward to develop it into our long-term training home. These will be confirmed and announced over the next twelve months.

“This is real progress for our Club,” explained Sporting Director, Iain Wood.

“I understand that last year was difficult, but this provides us with an immediate solid foundation to begin pre-season in a great location.

“We can put down our roots straight away here and get the stability we need as a Club and we are pleased to be moving into a partnership with such a progressive organisation.

“The planned future enhancements will only make it a more attractive facility and shows our determination to develop the Club’s infrastructure appropriately going forward.”

Greig Aspinall, Secretary of De La Salle FC added: “De La Salle are really pleased and excited about our new partnership.

“We are looking forward to welcoming Barrow AFC to our Club, in what is hopefully the start of a long and mutually beneficial relationship.

“It has been down to the hard work over the years of our volunteers, who have ensured hundreds of children and adults play football in a safe environment week in week out.

“This partnership, attracting a professional level club like Barrow AFC, shows the standards we have set, and this will boost the quality of our pitches and facilities even further with the additional investment.”

Would expect the hierarchy to have thought reasonably carefully about this important issue, particularly against the background of Cooper's disenchantment. Would think the owners wouldn't splash out on this, unless at worst the facilities are adequate, with a view to constant improvement if necessary. A significant onus on Wood to get this one right at this early stage. Would have thought he'd have consulted Wild over it. The general location is helpful in the sense of attracting players to sign for the club.

My lad played football there last month, they are one of our close rivals. Pitches are pretty good and they have a strong local reputation of decent football teams starting from age 5. Car Park is tight and social club well used. As some other people have said it gets used heavily through the season and security will be an issue. However, this arrangement is similar to what my club did with Salford a couple of years back. They trained and had use of our club house and meeting room. It benefitted both clubs as their groundsman maintained the 11 a side pitches and they invested in new wheel out goals etc. On the flip side the constant use of certain areas made the pitches worse than they used to be. So in short it could work, the area is OK but as everywhere has some numpties and its handy for motorway and east lancs road. Deal is similar to the Goshen training facility in Bury which we used last season but that was 3g aswell. Finally, the Salford deal at my place was a stop gap whilst they built their own training complex. I'd live to hear our plan for the future as I can't see this being our forever home.
